Dragon Tempest + the Hellkite = one Damage.Attack, Dragon Triggers, new Dragon, 2 Damage+6 damage.Combat again - two Dragons trigger - its's actually 4+4 damage because they see each other at the same time. The Dragon deal combat damage - +6+6.So it'S 1+2+6+4+4+6+6=29 damage.

Ah, yeah. This deck assumes you would target Zada with Seize the Day. How many attack steps should we assume I am getting here?

I swapped out Beetleback Chief for Pia and Kiran Nalaar. Thoughts?
It's activated ability and flying tokens versus being legendary (doesn't work with Kiki-Jiki) and not making goblins (doesn't work with Krenko).

Ender666666: Thanks. I'm always looking for something new to add/change/fiddle around with here. Anything come to mind?

1empyrean I would be happy to make any suggestions that do come to mind, but truth be told, I haven't played with, or against, a Zada deck yet, so I don't know that I'm in the best position to make any valuable recommendations.
To me, it looks like this deck is well thought out, and has even been tested in different variants, so I think you're well on your way to making it awesomer (yes, that is a word... Because I said so)
If anything does come to mind, I'll be sure to let you know
P.S. I really like how affordable this deck is to build. Although I have been pimping out my decks lately, I really appreciate seldom played cards, and budget decks that kick ass

OK, Thought of two things.
Have you considered Volcanic Vision? It's a great way to recur a useful, or even game winning spell, AND clear the armies of your enemies from the board so you can alpha strike in for the game.
Secondly, Burn Away is another pet card of mine that is unexpected, and can seriously ruin the day of an opponent who is relying on their graveyard for shenanigans.
December 26, 2015 8:53 p.m.
Ender666666: I have actually considered Volcanic Vision, but with the spells I am using it isn't a great fit. Mizzium Mortars was added instead, and Firestorm might go in at some point. Spell recursion isn't a priority, and the ones I am currently using are attached to creatures (which means easily repeatable).
I might consider Burn Away, but graveyard decks haven't really been a problem and it doesn't trigger if I kill a commander and it gets sent back to the command zone or sacrificed in response. The 5 mana is usually better spent on building up a field.
I actually played quite a few matches today, multiplayer matches for the first time in a long time. The speed and consistency were good. Descent of the Dragons and Utvara Hellkite were amazingly fun and effective. I like Soul Conduit especially because one of the decks was a life gain deck, but I think it fits much better as a part of the chaos variant list in terms of the feel I am going for with that deck (and I want to test out Rapacious One when I get one). Sword of the Paruns is really versatile here, but it serves the primary purpose of buffing the toughness of creatures I control (and secondary purpose of win-more because krenko abuses it so easily...This isn't a krenko deck, so I am trying to avoid that sort off thing), and I am looking for something outside the box which might possibly replace it. So far, I haven't found any new themes that have caught my eye, but I hope to see something interesting in the next few sets and keep my maybeboard stocked with things I want to try (or might go back to).

Love the deck so far! You've really put in extensive thought into really making Zada, Hedron Grinder shine. The added dragon aspect a unique touch as well.
I know right now I'm currently trying to experiment with making her a voltron style commander, but I may drop it for a more interesting approach. Have you thought of any other methods of utilizing Zada?
+1 for sure.
January 14, 2016 2:12 p.m.
GroadyToady Thanks, especially the part about the dragons. I like that Blades of Velis Vel can let me play with any tribal mechanics I want, and I plan on playing around with many different non-goblin tribal cards in the future (Magma Sliver could be interesting for your voltron idea).
I have indeed thought of many different ways to use Zada. I actually have considered using Bludgeon Brawl and Spellbinder, and I don't see a reason you can't make a voltron theme work. The real difficulty is that Zada is very effective at a token strategy, and doesn't do much to directly help out a voltron style game plan.
For different ways to use Zada's ability, there are several and I use several, but here is a list of everything I can think of right now.
Stuff lots of people use, or I have explored in my deck:
- Pretty much every Zada deck uses cantrips like Crimson Wisps to draw lots of cards.
- Knowledge Pool and Possibility Storm let you get more out of each spell you cast while still getting the effect of the original spell if it triggers Zada. Her ability also gives you some resistance to counter spells for the same reason.
- Chandra's Ignition or Arcbond and other similar spells can easily multiply into lethal levels of damage, and there are ways to survive doing this.
- Going all in for arcane spells is pretty darn effective, and a really cool use of an old mechanic that I only have a little of in here. Splicing a targeted spell onto Path of Anger's Flame, which I am not using right now, provided huge damage potential.
- There are ways to get lots of mana by using Zada's ability, like splicing a targeted spell with Desperate Ritual or Spawning Breath
- Many people go for a Goblin Tribal type deck. Goblin commander is a goblin after all.
Stuff that I don't see much of, but could still be fun:
- Using Chance Encounter and coin flip cards (Aleatory, Fiery Gambit, etc.) to win the game.
- Chaos effects like Grip of Chaos to give headaches.
There are a TON of things I want to try outside of mono-red, which means I can't use Zada as my commander, but I have been working on a General Tazri list that can tutor for Zada and have access to every color, so I should be able to play around with a lot of cool things.

MBereza Strionic Resonator will probably go in eventually, but I am leaving it out mostly because this Zada deck hasn't needed it to get the job done. I've been waiting for OGW to be released before changing too much from where I am now, at which point I can reevaluate what I can do with Zada. I think that if and when I do use Strionic Resonator, it should enable something special that couldn't be done without it. I had originally intended to use it in this deck with Possibility Storm and Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded (as a way to cast my only planeswalker in the deck with Possibility Storm) way before I decided to use Koth of the Hammer.
Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded and Volt Charge were both in the deck at one point and could eventually work their way back into the deck as the deck changes over time. There are always new things to try.

Have you thought about putting in the new Goblin Dark-Dwellers? I'm thinking about including the Chandra, Flamecaller for the tokens for free sac fodder and for her hand filtering.
January 17, 2016 4:07 a.m.
I've definitely thought about Chandra, Flamecaller and Goblin Dark-Dwellers. I'll probably overhaul the deck to make changes easier. Right now, the deck probably wouldn't do well with Chandra's -X, and I am not running Blasphemous Act for the same reason. There are a few things that many other Zada decks have that I opted not to uses purely because I was going for a full combo build (of course, it also seems to work alright if I don't combo out, but it is less of a sure thing).

What are your thoughts about expedite and brute strength?
January 19, 2016 1:31 p.m.
Expedite will go in when I get one, Brute Strength is alright, but it isn't as good as some other pump spells. I'm not really focused on playing a aggro strategy anyways.
I would rather run Brute Force over Brute Strength.

i too have a Zada EDH deck: Card Draw? What Does Zada Know About Card Draw? is the budget variant, and Card Draw? What Does Red Know About That? (No-Bgt) is the non-budget variant. a card i am absolutely loving is Obstinate Familiar of all things. it means i can avoid decking myself, no matter how many creatures i have, or how many cantrips i use. if you wouldn't mind checking my decks out, i would greatly appreciate it
January 19, 2016 11:34 p.m.
Ok, changes incoming. I'll try to get the changes tested out before I get to the experimental stuff I want to try.
January 23, 2016 7:09 a.m.
I decided it was time to try using Iron Myr and Hedron Crawler.
January 23, 2016 6:06 p.m.
Like :) : +1
As an idea: Thopter Assembly might be nice, and Chandra, Pyromaster
January 28, 2016 5:31 a.m.
GobboE I suppose Thopter Assembly might be a decent alternative to Myr Battlesphere. However, it doesn't make tokens on ETB so I don't get any benefit out of copying it or using either Goblin Welder or Feldon of the Third Path on it. On the other hand, I can't always be comboing, and I have lots of other creatures to combo out with.
II have already tried out Chandra, Pyromaster and it just doesn't do enough to change the game the turn I play it. I suppose it would be decent if I ulted, but I would have to defend her for several turns and she doesn't exactly have much to assist in that.
Thanks for the suggestions though. They are always welcome.

Cool deck! I've been working on a Zada list for a while since I was challenged to make one by another user and ended up finding it extremely interesing and fun to play. Could you take a look and see if I can make improvements? I can have a hard time finding the pieces I need to get the 40 damage in. A Hedron to Grind
January 28, 2016 3:34 p.m.
AndWelcomeToTheJam sure thing. I'll post my thoughts on your deck page.

With the dragon combo you deal 1+2+3+4+6+12 = 28 damage. Why am I not running this in my dragon edh?
