I've seen it work before-you just need lots of mass sweepers-like 8 including Terminus and have the bird as your wincon.

I like the idea. Was Back from the Brink ever a consideration in the main over Rest in Peace or was RiP just that much more efficient? BftB lets you recast dead Thragtusk s, which is a thing.

But having main-board Rest in Peace means my match win percentage against Frites if through the roof, as well as against most other forms of control (who rely on things like Think Twice , Snapcaster Mage , and Feeling of Dread ). And Back from the Brink seems really slow to me. It costs 6 and I couldn't use it on the turn it came out, unless I had at least 10 mana.

I'm hesitant to use Terminus , honestly, seeing as how putting a Misthollow Griffin on the bottom of my library significantly slows me down.

With Rest in Peace out, I can cast it every turn and never run out of creatures to play. It's the main win-condition of the deck, actually. At some point, through my control, my opponent will simply not be able to produce a creature/spell every turn to answer my Misthollow Griffin . And unless my opponent uses Terminus while it's out, it's never going to stay dead.

Nevermore and d-spheres in the sb, you decide what should come out to make room.

Is there any reason why Detention Sphere shouldn't be main? I'd like to hear your explanation.

This deck wants to be killing off and clearly the way as much as possible. That way, my opponent will eventually run out of creatures and I'll win (since I'll never run out).

Went 2-2 last night at FNM. The first two rounds were great. I got out Misthollow Griffin and Rest in Peace each game and never ran out of creatures while my opponent eventually fell behind on card advantage. Hell, at one point, I had a ton of lands, card:Alchemist's Refuge, and then RIP and Misthollow going for me. Activate Refuge when they attack, flash in Misthollow from exile, block, it dies, and then flash it back in EoT. lol

The last two rounds were horrible. For some reason, my deck just started giving me awful no-land hands and I had to mulligan down to 5 four games in a row, still keeping a pretty average hand (even for 5).

I think I'm looking to remove the Green entirely from this deck. Currently, the only difference in the mainboard would be - Farseek (which you don't need if you only have 2 colors without Green) and Thragtusk . Removing Thragtusk at first seemed impossible, but I could add a lot more control to the mainboard and wind up needing the stabilization from Thragtusk a lot less.

Thoughts?

if you drop green you would be able to put in Jace, Memory Adept and tamiyo as alt win cons with the remaining spots for more control. also it would be interesting to see you not play green.

Right? It's a scary proposition.

This is a crazy suggestion, but maybe Helvault ? I know it sounds crazy, but just in case they Slaughter Games your Rest in Peace or you don't draw it or something along those lines, it could give you the same effect. Also it would give you a mana dump late game, and the potential to exile one of their creatures every turn. I don't know just something to think about/ confuse your opponents :D. For a more practical suggestion, did you ever consider Angel of Serenity ? Would be able to the way for misthollow at the very least.

  • Would be able to clear the way for misthollow at least*

Moorland Haunt would be interesting to play with too, create token from dead griffin, flash it back in from exile

shrug

I thought about that, but the goal here is to get out Rest in Peace . And since no one's running Enchantment hate beyond Detention Sphere /Oblivion Ring , I don't have much of an issue with it, especially when I can drop it turn-2.

It's not that I couldn't run a copy of Moorland Haunt ; I just think my utility lands could be better and more useful.

I love the idea, though i'd've thought the ratio of D-spheres to O-ring was about 2:3 seeing as the sphere doesn't answer itself. I'm considering making a budget version of this... would Inspiration supplement the revelation's slot? Without much in the way of enchantment recursion i might run Sphere of Safety in the place of the boardwipes i can't acquire.

I feel like a Sphere of Safety strategy lends itself better to mill as a win-con. Once the board is locked down, just cast Jace, Memory Adept and you win in 3-4 turns.

I play 4 Detention Sphere s in my deck mainly because of the fact that hardly anybody uses them in my meta. And using Oblivion Ring over it just means that now my Detention Sphere substitutes can be targeted by Detention Sphere . I don't like the argument that calls for an even split on D-Sphere/O-Ring.

Sweet - I really like this deck, so much that I took an almost-exact copy to my local FNM. I was missing the Faithmenders, and so I still died to RDW. Maybe I didn't swap the right things out for the sideboard. I also used 1 Sphinx, and 1 Drogskol Reaver instead of 2 sphinx, either of them worked very well when out.

The shock and confusion on opponents' faces when a Griffin comes out, and later a Sphinx, are awesome, hehehe!!

So what do you remove from MB when you put in the anti-RDW/aggro cards? And do you swap the Tamiyos for the Jaces when you put them in, or something else?

soothslyr says... #24

have you put any thought into including some of the gatecrash cards in this deck?

Rapid Hybridization seems like it would be a great fit for both defense against opposing o-rings or spheres on your griffins, or to slow down opposing early rush strategies.

zandl says... #25

Blind Obedience will be an auto-include in the sideboard against Aggro. It's amazing against RDW as it essentially puts you a turn ahead (since everything has Haste) and gives you free life.

I haven't looked too far into Gatecrash cards and how they could apply to this deck. I'll get around to it later on this week, when I'm not to so burdened by school and work.

Tamiyo, the Moon Sage works very well against Control. I'd add in Jace, Memory Adept against Control decks in place of things like Terminus (first) and Supreme Verdict . You always want to keep at least 2 Verdicts because a lot of control builds will be packing Geist of Saint Traft in the sideboard as a 4-of.
