Zedruu the Greathearted is a commander that can lend itself to only so many playstyles, but my first Commander deck I created several years ago attempted to make something new, or a least not "donate bad stuff." The general strategy of the deck is to play a bunch of permanents that you can donate to no detriment (Unifying Theory, Howling Mine, Meishin the Mind Cage) to generate a bunch of card advantage, and build up a defense with pillow fort cards. Once you hit around 5 to 6 mana, you can start dropping threats that threaten to end the game very quickly. Between Zedruu and all of the draw effects, any of the "Maros" have a good chance of one to two shotting any opponent.

This deck was built to give you control over how fast the game goes. You can just go for the draw power right away, or you could slow roll it and pillow fort up.

The deck is by no means perfect, it was built with a shoestring budget as I learned to play the game. It started as a Numot deck because my only cards were a Venser vs. Koth duel deck and an Innistrad "Eldritch Onslaught." I just jammed most of the cards together and started swapping cards out until the only remaining cards are Venser and Sturmgeist, which remain mainly because they were my first cards.

My eureka moment came when I realized that I loved having a hand size comparable to my deck, and my friends liked having long games that could still be ended with a single swing if we just wanted to be done. For that, Zedruu was the better commander, and by having such incredible draw power in the deck, tutoring is hardly necessary, as you see most of your deck in a single game.
