I feel like you might topdeck into a lot of land while running 4 Farseek and 25 Land. /:

That's the standard count for midrange decks. I am not running any mana dorks so I really need to hit a land every turn. I would be able to get away with 24 if I ran 4-6 dorks.

Woww not only is this deck spicy as hell but your justifications for each card are solid, intelligent and well presented and the FNM report just rounds it all off to make me say man shouldn't you be writing blog posts and stuff for this sort of thing?!

Thank you for the compliments! I document almost every test and tournament I participate in just to help myself keep track of the changes and to help me spot errors and flaws in the deck. Sometimes it helps to just try to recall the plays and the records of life totals and suddenly notice something that you should have done differently but you overlooked since you've been playing with the deck for so long. Long story short, documenting everything helps me keep track of my deck's progress and it also helps anyone who aspire to build similar decks (or even take the list for a spin at their own LGS).

im sitting here reading your description and you said you had two aetherlings resolved yet you lost because you only had 7 mana so couldn't kill with 16 life.

why didnt you just make both unblockable. then blink them. still have 3 mana. his turn. block both olivia and sire, blink so damage isnt done. then win next turn?

considering you said they were swinging for lethal, you can stop both of them without taking any damage

I was at 9 life and he had Olivia Voldaren with 2 +1/+1 counters on her with just enough mana to activate Kessig Wolf Run to pump her for exactly lethal. It was a race at that point since I had no way of stopping Olivia. I could block Sire Of Insanity just fine but it didn't matter since all he needed to do was pump the flyer and go right over. I had to finish him that turn. Remember that AEtherling does not have flying.

I see no point in cavern of souls, maybe side it for if you're playing against someone with a lot of countering, but since no 2 different creatures share a creature type, if may as well say choose a creature card instead of a creature type, and since you have no basic lands in here for all those dual lands, unless you get a shock land right away, they all come into play tapped, so i recommend changing the caverns to basic lands, but other than that i like it, and the description

Wolfninja, Prime Speaker Zegana and Master Biomancer are both of a creature type Wizard so I usually use one of them for that since I prefer to use it and keep as many blue mana open as possible if AEtherling is out for safety purpose. Vampire Nighthawk 's double black cost sometimes also warrants naming a Vampire creature type to ensure his resolution on turn 3 and in time to block the incoming attacks from aggro decks. It's not so much as the uncounterable clause since I don't play against a lot of control decks. It's more for color fixing exactly when I need to. Sometimes having a land that adds virtually any color you need goes a long way. Also, since this is a 3-colored deck running cards with relatively demanding color combinations in mana costs, I need every land to be able to pull extra weight so I don't get stuck with cards in my hand and missing a color source to cast them.

There are 5 Wizards, 4 Shapeshifters, 4 Vampires, and 4 Beasts out of all 17 of my creatures so Cavern of Souls definitely does work in this list.

Thank you for the comment!

Please tell me you've been able to do Progenitor Mimic on Master Biomancer . I can only imagine the amount of absurdness that gets pooped out every turn with those two cards...

Maybe I can do more than imagine: Progenitor Mimic comes in as a 4/6 Master Biomancer . Next turn, you get an 8/10 biomancer, and the next you get a 16/18, and then a 32/34...

Goody, I in fact have done just that a couple times to hilarious results. Usually only one or two would do until Garruk Relentless  Flip or Garruk, Primal Hunter becomes an unstoppable roid raged beast token generator. However, I usually don't get to do that too often in competitive matches since I usually have higher priority targets along with the fact that Master Biomancer is quite a removal magnet, but that means less removals for the rest of my creatures. Having an Vampire Nighthawk that can block Griselbrand and live to tell the tale is quite awesome.

I'm stealing your Standard Tournament record idea.

For everyone commenting on this deck, it's fantastically fun to play against and I assume it's also fun to use. There are so many lines of play and swingy moments in every game.

Goody, in the case of the Biomancer/Mimic interaction, we discovered that it effectively prevents you from casting Prime Speaker Zegana for the rest of the game, as it would enter as a 40+ power creature and deck yourself.

zandadoum, you won't be able to use any of those draws if the amount you draw from her triggered ability exceeds the size of my library, which it will under the above situations. If only I had a Laboratory Maniac ...

June 19, 2013 6:28 p.m.

zandadoum says... #17

yeah the Laboratory Maniac would really be handy. is it expensive? might be worth putting a couple into the deck somehow, as yet another win condition ;)

June 19, 2013 6:37 p.m.

mrbloo1848 says... #18

zandadoum, considering I have only one Prime Speaker Zegana as my only way to mass-draw (outside of Garruk, Primal Hunter ) and the deck itself isn't centered around self-mill, relying on him as a win-con is not a smart move :)

Card like that belongs in the Turn-One-Win legacy deck.

One interesting thing I have seen with Deadbridge Chant is grave reshuffle effects on yourself. (Elixir of Immortality for example.) This allows you to, essentially, have a duplicate Tamiyo, the Moon Sage emblem. Just food for thought.

I really like this deck, it shares a lot of commonalities with my Live Long and Populate deck. I gave up the targeted removal for the life gain that W allows.

What seem to be your roughest matches so far?

that doesn't make sense dude. it reshuffles your graveyard into your library.

Ohthenoises says... #23

ThEdUnCeCaP what do you think happens to the spells you cast AFTER you reshuffle? You reduce the card pool that Deadbridge Chant has to pick from. If you only cast one non permenant spell in a turn you KNOW what Deadbridge Chant will get for you.

mrbloo1848 says... #24

Ohthenoises, trust me. I have considered trying to make Deadbridge Chant more of a center piece. The problem is, the meta is still a bit too fast for that to work. There are also more efficient ways to filter your graveyard for a more selective fetching, such as Deathrite Shaman , Cremate , Memory's Journey , etc.

And to answer your question about tough matchups, I, along with many other decks that don't maindeck mass removal, have troubles with Bant Hexproof in games 1. Post board, I have a slightly better chance but they still have the upper hand if they got their hexproof creatures out nice and early. This deck also usually can't keep up with the sheer card advantage pre-board Junk Rites has, especially if they are on the play. Getting Acidic Slime locked before you can gather 5 mana hurts. A lot.

Other than that, this deck does very well against aggro and has good resilience against control and still keeps up pressure thanks to planeswalkers and Deadbridge Chant . I have yet to play a RBW or Junk Aristocrats deck and I have a feeling it should do alright.
