Amazing for a 1.38 CMC to be able to pull out the beat down like that. It's the consistency that's impressive. Love at first sight.

How would this do at FNM in normal standard?

Great changes.

I'd actually like to try this build in a normal standard (provided you don't mind), and will post results. I love this deck.

Golem_Token I have no problem at all with you posting your results here if you take this deck to a normal standard. I would be interested in seeing how it did. The looks on opponents faces if in fact it does lay a beat down on a few would be awesome once you tell them Oh and its pauper (standard). That would be priceless.

Golem_Token If you do happen to take this to an FNM I can post your results in an update at the top instead of a comment.

That would be awesome. I'll play it this FNM.

Oh wow, it's like someone took my old RW Heroic deck and made it good for ridiculously cheap. Kudos, sir. Kudos.

This deck is missing Hero of Iroas pretty hard with all its auras/bestow. Wingsteed Rider sort of seems pretty high on the mana curve because he just dies to removal and has no immediate value, really just until you can pump a few auras on him and HOPE they don't have removal.. Good deck!

MadScientist says... #9

blinded2 The title says Pauper which means only common cards no uncommon or rare. Hero of Iroas is rare.

The challenge is to build the deck with ONLY common cards.

matteus400 in the description you say that Ethereal Armor makes it a 5/5, but wouldn't it only make it a 4/4 because you only have 1 enchantment?

MadScientist says... #11

@Ravexburn Good catch, when playing this deck it is so hard to keep track of triggers and counters. It is so worth it though.

I have updated the description to reflect the change (still a 7/5 is still a respectable early game creature!)

Why not replace the 2 Wingsteed Rider With 2 Cavalry Pegasus instead. You have all humans and would help for evasion and securing damage in the event they have a defender. It also is only 2 CMC fitting the fast style.

MadScientist says... #13

LunarComet That is a tough call to make I really don't want to give up heroic on the wingsteed. I am sure there are good cases for either way but I think I am going to leave the riders in. 3CMC is not really a worry and they do help if a game goes longer than 5 turns.

Showing restraint is the toughest part of playing this deck, keeping back some spells or creatures in your hand just in case.

I like this deck. I like what you are trying to do with the pauper concept. If you weren't, I could really see a Door of Destinies added here in those games where it goes a few more turns than you had planned. Many decks may have kill spells but sometimes miss those pesky artifacts.

rjm66 I am contemplating a non pauper version of this deck with some of the rare humans and doors etc. I am just having too much fun playing this one though :). 4 Hero of Iroas would be amazing. As well as a few other guys that are awesome.

Have you considered Martial Glory in this deck? It triggers the heroic ability twice. Great Deck BTW!

March 9, 2014 3:53 a.m.

MadScientist says... #18

FearenRehnet I have Martial Glory sitting as a side just trying to figure out which cards to replace for them to go in. Might replace the Wingsteed Rider with them.

If you needed more creatures, less enchantments (for, say, a control deck with a lot of counterspell and enchant hate), I find Wojek Halberdiers and Splatter Thug s to be potent commons to use, and gel very well with the aggro mentality.

TheNinjaJesus We don't normally play with sideboards at out little tournament as control decks are not used much in our pauper group. With that said there are some really cool decks coming out to the tournaments so we may start using sideboards. Your suggestions are perfect for the sideboard if I need to sideboard in more creatures.

Golem_Token says... #21

I'm making a sideboard for this deck for FNM standard this week.

I'll keep Wojek Halberdiers and Splatter Thug in mind.

So far Im thinking Rootborn Defenses and Martial Glory . Maybe Impetuous Sunchaser + Loyal Pegasus and Rakdos Shred-Freak .

Any other thoughts?

Golem_Token says... #22

Actually you're mainboarding the glory now, looks like wing-steel makes the sideboard.

March 9, 2014 1:45 p.m.

MadScientist says... #23

I main boarded the Glory as I think it will be more beneficial than the wingsteed, I played a few more rounds and found that the wingsteed was not really a big help but having an additional heroic trigger X2 made lethal just a little more stable.
