I wanted to build a zombie tribal deck back when I started playing EDH and this is what it morphed into. Balthor is as zombie as it gets: he repeatedly brings your zombies back from the graveyard. The zombies never truly die, they just keep coming.

This deck revolved around casting and recurring Gary as many times as possible. The deck wins by casting Gary about 95% of the time.

Update 2023: This deck originally had a slow attrition/inevitability theme, usually winning by turn 9 or so, but I've updated it to be much faster with tutors like Songs of the Damned and Lion's Eye Diamond (super gross in this deck). It can now win regularly in turns 4-7. The deck relies on creatures that come into play and mill cards, but can now mill faster with Doom Whisperer and Necrologia. The deck also features the Mesmeric Orb + Basalt Monolith combo, although I'm still not completely convinced it's a great combo. Mesmeric Orb is great in the deck, but Basalt Monolith isn't great on it's own because popping off Balthor requires 5 black mana and 2 generic mana. I've also included more tutors, but these are awkward too because the deck wants as many creatures as possible. I've removed most of the non-creature based removal, such as Oblivion Stone and Grave Pact, since these cards always felt unnecessary. Overall, this deck is very hard to stop or interact with and feels like and 8/10 when you play with it.
