Great build. ALWAYS wanted to use Smallpox in a deck.
What do you think about Gaze of Granite as a sideboard option? Basically modern's Pernicious Deed.

I think as cool of card as it is, there are just better options. Namely Ratchet Bomb and Engineered Explosives.
Some times black decks resort to using Oblivion Stone.

I've been working on basically the same deck for some time now. Have you given any thought to Geralf's Messenger or Necromancer's Stockpile? +1 from me man... 3 cheers for Pox!

I like Geralf's Messenger a lot and have ran him in a pox build before back when Deathrite Shaman was legal. He's awesome but his cmc can be hard to hit for this particular deck and while a highly effective beat stick not being on the power level of Liliana of the Veil means this deck can't afford to make space :/ I have some Necromancer's Stockpile and have been toying with the idea but haven't tested it. This deck really wants it mana so I think Phyrexian Arena might be the best answer short of splashing blue.

What are your thoughts on Dismember and Slaughter Pact?
December 29, 2014 4:17 p.m.
APPLE01DOJ says... #8
I'm not as fond of Dismember as others. In my experience the card seems expensive for what u want it to do. It's tried, tested, & proven though and can be versatile in the early game when u need it to be. Slaughter Pact is a very effective 1-of. It'll save u from a pumped up Inkmoth Nexus in an emergency. Even if u can't pay for the card the next turn u can still use it to push through for lethal damage. Vendetta/Doom Blade/Slaughter Pact are better than they used to be in our current meta since Dark Confidant is temporary on the sidelines & Fulminator Mage practically can't be killed anyway...

I was considering goyf and DC for my BG deck but I'm not sure if DC is as powerful as he used to be. Some folks favor Courser of Kruphix for card draws.

Bobby is a beast. Once I have 4x Dark Confidant 3 more Tarmogoyf I'm running Rock. I already own the rest of the deck. I've even been brewing new Rock ideas... Obliterator Rock 2015
I've used both Courser & Confidant a lot. Courser just isn't on the power level of Confidant but both work quite nice side by side especially with fetches. I'm not as sold on the new Junk (Abzan) builds with Siege Rhino and no Bobby. That shit ain't a rock deck.
Eventually Delver will calm down or get priced out, either way it won't be as thick and burn is already starting to subside so Dark Confidant (IMO) will probably start appearing in more lists... The card is just too good. Smoothes out Liliana of the Veil's offset.

Bloodsoaked Champion isn't a zombie, but he may as well be. Might wanna try throwing him in here. Probably in place of Diregraf Ghoul.

Only things that I plan to replace Diregraf Ghoul with is more Tarmogoyf ;)

I was thinking about how smallpox is used in this build and thought how even though it's a symmetrical effect for both players, it'll hurt the opponent more. That being said, Dakmor Salvage has dredge, though it doesn't dig as deep as most other dredge cards, the synergy with Bloodghast was prominent to me.
Always having a land at the ready just waiting to be used whenever you need it, and it may even toss 'ghast into the yard when dredged. Thoughts?

I forgot to mention, using dakmor as a land sac to satisfy smallpox isn't that bad either.

In my 8rack experience of 100's of games, I never once needed Dakmor Salvage. If I were going to add more land Bojuka Bog would be next on the list. This deck used to run Crucible of Worlds+Ghost Quarter but dropped the Crucible because it was never needed. I run 8 fetches so Bloodghast is pretty set as is....

hey apple, looking at the list, my first thought was the same as Saljen, why not raidcrawler over Diregraf Ghoul? your comment was 'no that card sucks', but out of curiousity, im wondering why?
running it through in my own mind
diregraf ghoul is better because a) it can block eventually, b) it has two toughness c) its a zombie for gravecrawler
Bloodsoaked Champion is better because a) you dont care about blocking b) the second toughness doesnt matter much when you are running out suicidal aggro attacks c) theres lots of other zombie triggers. It seems like the recursion and ability to discard it would fit in better. what else is there from your experience that maybe i am missing? or is it just a situation of 'i dont have 4 raidcrawlers and the comparison is moot in the face of my desire to fill that slot with tarmogoyfs'?

I have some and use him here I Can't Drown My Demons, They Know How To Swim :) u r correct, I find the raid too too conditionally irrelevant to compromise both consistency and the ability to block. Spellskites on the SB often come in for that reason a lone.

Although a while back Saljen suggested Carrion Feeder I'm still tempted to pick some up to test out. If only it was legal... Or if only Deathrite Shaman was legal again. DRS is sick in this deck.

Mana dorks for 1. I'd replace the ghoul with that. Just because of the lolz possibilities of a t1 land / dork (Birds of Paradise, Elvish Mystic, etc. T2, Lotleth Troll, discard a bloodghast and a vine, play a land...and a ghast...and a vine, swing for 4. T3, swing for more. Etc. It's just fun. If you're running only 2 colors, it's really a fun way to get going quickly. Just a thought. It's not a 100% every time hit, but it is awesome when it occurs.

Oh, and Krosan Grip. Because, blood moon.... And, I love graveyard tricks, so +1. I run a Junk Pox in modern, and I loves it. I may actually switch to Jund vine. I haven't decided yet, but it is so much fun to look at.

You can't use Extirpate to make things uncounterable, because after you cast a spell, your opponent gets priority and can cast his counterspell before you can close up the stack with Extirpate...

Bloodghast def belongs here. :P I tried looking through your decks. Thanx for the link.

Maybe a Crucible of Worlds, just for the smallpox and lili uses. You may wind up discarding a land at some point, and smallpox does hit you too.

The very first build of this had Crucible of Worlds in the SB for when I needed to side in Ghost Quarters but the lock was never really needed so I dropped it.
