You ever consider throwing in a Hakim, Loreweaver there for extra beats/enchantment return engine? I run a rather derpy Hakim myself and the shenanigans are pretty fantastic, although mine is much less control than your Zur deck is.

I have not considered Hakim, Loreweaver before because I didn't know he existed! What a funny, janky dude - I can see how he'd be amusing to run. If I ever get my hands on a copy I'll maybe try him in here for shits & gigs. I checked out your deck GenesisWave, have an upboat sir.

Thanks man. I have a real soft spot for jank cards in general, so getting to share them with other people makes me happy. Best of luck in your deck building endeavors and thanks for the upboat.

I quite like the variety of your build, it's a little more friendly than my variant but still packs punch! The creature list in particular looks like a blast! Any particular reason you don't run Sun Titan? Also do you find the +1/+1 from Spirit Mantle is more beneficial than the instant extra card from Unquestioned Authority?

Oh yea and +1 from me!

Thanks for the kind words outofnothing0. I think I had Sun Titan in here at one point but for reasons I can't explain I took him out. You're right though, epic recursion for sure. The only reason I'm rocking Spirit Mantle instead of Unquestioned Authority is because I only have one copy, currently in my Uril deck - Now that there's a reprint it should be easy to find (not that it was ever some sort of mythical rare treasure haha) and should totally be in here, good call.

I checked out your Zur build. Amazing.

Have you though about running any enchantment creatures. I can't think of any that would be relevant but maybe a consideration...

Interesting, I hadn't really considered the enchantment creature angle for Zur. I can see value in adding Thassa, God of the Sea, Athreos, God of Passage & perhaps Aegis of the Gods. They're not really part of Zur's main strategy but I might try them for fun, see how it goes. Cheers.

I like this. I feel like you need more ways to protect zur early game be it through counterspells or hand disruption. Also counterspells help when board wipes are played so you don't lose zur's armory.

Thanks Alt.Delete. I appreciate the suggestion. I tend not to run a huge amount of counterspells due to personal preference. Of course they're powerful, but they lean toward anti-fun (I realize the hypocrisy seeing as this is a Zur deck after all). I've altered the deck to be more fun for casual play, not a competitive power house.

Having said that, the 4 counterspells, enchantment package (Zur staples like Diplomatic Immunity & Greater Auramancy) + boots that I run generally keep Zur & pals safe. If I were to hypothetically add more counterspells, any in particular that you would suggest? What would you cut here to make room?

you should consider running Sunken Field, Stasis, Stony Silence and Ghostly Touch, for lockdown, and a Serra's Sanctum just because this is an enchantress deck

Really any counterspells. In my zur deck i run 16 counterspells: Arcane Denial Cancel Counterspell Delay Dispel Dissipate Dissolve Ertai's Meddling Faerie Trickery Foil Mana Leak Memory Lapse Muddle the Mixture Negate Perplex Swan Song. of these, muddle the mixture and perplex are almost never used as a couterspell. Foil and ertai's meddling and foil are terrible cards that i need to replace. Honestly i would keep spare counterspells that you own with you and whenever someone plays a board wipe look at all your cards and think "I could have countered that." Find what doesn't ever do anything for you and replace it.

Serra's Sanctum is definitely a must for this deck, I simply don't have one. I should probably stick Stasis in here somewhere. It combos so nicely with vigilance (Daybreak Coronet), Bruna, Light of Alabaster would love it too. The other suggested enchantments are interesting - Much more of a control theme. Cool suggestions aznb01777, thank you.

Yep, that's a lot of counterspell Alt.Delete! Do you have a decklist anywhere (had a look at your profile but didn't see it)? I'd be interested to check it out.

How come you're playing Sovereigns of Lost Alara without Eldrazi Conscription? From my experience, that is one hell of a finisher for Zur control decks.

Because...I didn't think of that. I've been so hellbent on ensuring all enchantments/auras are 3CC or less that I didn't really even consider it. But now that you've pointed it out, it must happen! Excellent call PlattBonnay, cheers.

Yeah, I did the same thing with my Zur deck for a while, but there are some enchantments that are just good enough to break that rule for. I also notice that you're playing Necropotence without Solitary Confinement, whys that?

February 19, 2015 12:44 p.m.

Forkbeard says... #21

Mainly because I don't own one. It's a sweet combo, definitely dips it's toe into douchebag waters - That said, I have things like Stasis in here so I guess one more hate combo wouldn't be the end of the world.

As a small suggestion to possibly make people hate this more is Celestial Mantle. One of my favorite enchantments that when unchecked won't end games, but ensure that you will not loose.

Hello again sir! I try to keep all of my chants in the 3 casting cost range for maximum Zur snag-ability, Eldrazi Conscription being the sole exception.

Well how about Ethereal Armor? It fits within your constraints and loves enchantments. It probably also could go in your Eril deck as well.
