Ha, yeah. I used to run Phyresis in here too. That was popular.

I came across a recent fact about how cumulative upkeep works that makes Zur even nastier... almost too nasty.
Cumulative upkeep states "At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it."
Enter Solemnity, which is Zur pullable. If you stop the age counter from being placed, you never have to pay the upkeep cost...
Thus, Tidal Control and Inner Sanctum become super mean. Also, Energy Storm is an option, and you can use Reconnaissance to deal with untapping as well.

This is wild, I have had almost the exact same experience. I have my Zur deck on my account. Having not really played a lot of commander when I built my first commander deck, I wanted something that would be successful against almost any deck I came across. I figured enchantments were probably the hardest permanent in the format to deal with back then, and I thought it was "Cool" how so many enchantments could stack together to make me nigh invincible to interaction. Only after playing a few games did I realize that as much as I don't want people to mess with my plans, solemnity + decree of silence or other heavy stax made my opponents not want to play with me ever again. I've changed it to try to be a live at 0 life and cast repay in Kind type gimmick deck and while its definitely not as strong it's a lot more interesting and different to play. You were right about 1 thing, never go full doomsday zur.

yeah, I'm not one of those "infinite loop" builders, either.
Just 21, straight to the face. Commander damage, just take it.
And if you somehow protect yourself from losing life, I'll make it infect tokens instead.
Whatever it takes, Zur can deliver it.
