+1 outofnothing0 keep up the good work.

Have a look at my Uril deck that I like to play in 1v1 games, I think its pretty good, would give Zur a good go I think Rain on the Mountain

The deck is a bit harsh for casual play sometimes so I keep it on the bench until someone wants a challenge.

@ChiefBell: Competitive: as good as or better than others of a comparable nature. I said i wanted it to be competitive in a 1v1 game. Nowhere did i say i wanted to enter it in a French Format tourney. I can't stand French Format and highly doubt i'll ever build one, but if i do someday I will indeed follow the deck construction rules specific to that format. Thank you for your concern.

@ThrKing: Thanks for the support (and the +1)! I'll check out your deck for sure!

You have Negate but not Essence Scatter - any particular reason?

Also - no love for Syncopate or Path to Exile ? Whilst Syncopate can be weak, against any opponent that taps out for a big play like a Sun Titan , it's very effective.

I assume you get Zur T4 and then attack and start searching around T5. I can see that you could do it around T3 sometimes with the ramp. The problem with the ramp is that you may end up tapping out for ramp, leaving the opponent to have a significant T2 play (like Demonic Tutor for example). It looks quick and deadly though. The only saving grace any opponent has is that by T4 they could well have a counterspell or killspell in hand ready to be cast when you tap out. Otherwise yeh - they're screwed. That's pretty much how Zur works.

My Teneb deck really starts working in a similar time frame (between turns 3 to 6) which seems to be common for the format.

i don't have Essence Scatter mostly because i almost never have problems with creatures on the field. I'm more concerned with spells that can directly stop zur before he has a chance to swing. Still trying to figure out the right balance of counters to run though so it may go in sometime.

Never really considered very many of the x costing counter spells... Syncopate added to maybeboard.

and Path to Exile 's been in there since day 1, you must've missed it.

I've use Mana Vortex in my Zur deck. Turn 5 or 6 I don't need mana much anymore. It is a show stopper even if they hit every land drop for the next 5 turns, they are still limited and will never be able to cast those big spells with reliability. (i.e. Diplomatic Immunity into Daybreak Coronet to Stasis and then Mana Vortex . Game over man... game over.

@Enyeto: i've been on the fence about infect for awhile... I'll give it another think over and may include it at a later date. And Mana Vortex is already in my maybeboard (until I find one). Thanks though!

My friend runs Phyresis in his Zur deck, which is often a one-hit kill.

Also, I agree that Daze is kind of weak. I get that it's a staple in Legacy, but that format is fast and dense. In commander, the odds of getting Daze when it matters are way lower. Also, Runed Halo is one of the few ways of dealing with True-Name Nemesis .

thanks for the input ProfessorDucky!

I've been thinking about Phyresis for a while and it'll probably end up going in fairly soon. And regarding Daze , i do find it is intermittent for when it'll work or not so i'll take your advice and cut it as soon as i have a chance to sit down and work on the deck (really busy with school lately).

I was wondering why you decided not to run Energy Field . It makes you invincible with Rest in Peace out, which is a nice trick imo.

Also, I am building a Zur deck now (Zur's Pillow fort). I would appreciate your thoughts if you have the time.

@dnoland: I don't run Energy Field because it leaves me unable to cast instants and sorceries without the Rest in Peace combo you mentioned. I'd have to tutor for one or both haves to make it work and there are higher priority things i'd usually search for first. Good suggestion though thanks! I'll have a better look at your deck now and see if I can think of anything you might want to add.

@Enyeto: Daze has been officially swapped for Memory Lapse because i'd rather that they don't have the option to pay extra to get through. Sure Memory Lapse doesn't "officially" counter the spell but it slows the opponent down for a turn and should buy me the time i need to react to the board state. We'll see how it plays but initial tests have proved decent.

@cmskinny: thanks for the suggestion but AEtherling is really slow and i'm trying to avoid adding all but the most essential creatures to the deck.
