Anyone doing cartooning?

Hello all!

I am currently working on a project where I am doing some cartooning, and scanning my drawings for editing on my computer. The only editing software I have is the bunk that came on my PC pre-loaded.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for software that could enable me to basically turn my pencil line drawings into black/white line drawings. I want to be able to do the color filling on my computer, but as-is there is a lot of white space that isn't totally white so the color doesn't fill the whole area.

I tried using the "convert to black/white" option in Paint, but it did not work very well. I don't need to do any advanced editing or photo work, so something like adobe photoshop would be far to expensive considering what I am trying to do.

If anyone has any advice on what to use, I would be most grateful.

It's too bad you weren't cool with the Adobe stuff because Adobe Illustrator sounds perfect for what you need.

Good luck in your search!

Side note: I want to see the cartoons!

FOUND IT! In my searching, I came across GIMP. It's got a lot of the same tools as adobe photoshop, in a much uglier less user friendly interface, but it works well. In particular, it has a feature they call "Threshold" where you can reduce a picture to two colors (b/w in my case) on a sliding scale, which is exactly what I needed so I can hand do draw things, and then do color filling with the PC.

As far as seeing the cartoons, they are for a project that isn't live on the internet yet, but when it finally is, I'm sure I'll spam the link. That won't be for 6 months to a year though.
