...soooooo in breaking news, Obama just caved, has dropped the global sanction on Iran, and they are now allowed to build nuclear weapons.

Was not really a fan of his before this, but this is just ridiculous and I don't see it ending well.

Wow you sound very educated. Here's the full deal if you want to get your head out of your ass.

kyuuri117, no need to act so childish. He didn't "cave," he spent A YEAR AND A HALF negotiating a deal with Iran to allow them to continue their nuclear program. Sure, they might build nuclear weapons. But they are now capable of developing nuclear power and proceeding with advancing their country, modernizing it and exiting the third world. That's big. That's really big, and it shows something that both sides are able to put aside their differences (especially America) and come up with a mutually beneficial deal that allows a country to begin its trek out of poverty.

Not to mention, the entire deal is meant to allow Iran to develop as a nation without being able to develop nuclear weapons. Sure they can still try (and I bet they will) but that's still a dumb way to look at the actual deal

There is no need to jump down my throat. My opinion is that it's stupid to drop trade sanctions with a country that is not happy with the US. And their "promise to not build nuclear weapons" is not really worth much.

I know he spent quite a while setting this up, but regardless of the amount of time put into this deal, it's not a good idea.

We had a Cold War with Russia over similar issues, I just don't see this ending well.

Iran's entire nuclear supply-chain is going to be monitored by international committees so they wouldn't be able to actually make a bomb without the world knowing.

It really isn't the kind of threat you think it is. Iran's current president was elected on a campaign promising to reduce sanctions on Iran and improve their economy. They're doing this deal for the economic benefit, for the welfare of their people.

This is literally the opposite of the Cold War. Like, straight opposite. We are removing sanctions and helping allow a nuclear program. How does that compare to us fighting Russia and trying to deny them power in the world?

Also, since you brought it up- another major advantage to this deal is that IF Iran does get nukes, they might think a little more highly of us, rather than getting all their support from China and, wait for it, Russia.

Also I don't think that's a fair comparison regarding the Cold War. There was so much more going on during that time which allowed for things to escalate as they did. The US and USSR were the two strongest economic and military powers, so they were incredibly competitive to begin with. Then throw in the fact that our political and economic doctrines were polar opposites.

Iran doesn't come anything close to that.

The best way to improve relations with another country, is to not have a say in everything they do, and restrict whatever we can. Should Iran be able to use nuclear energy for things? Yes. Should they, or any country, including the US, have nuclear weapons? Absolutely not. The only thing that can come from that is Armageddon.

This probably won't even affect us as a country. The only people that should have a problem with this new deal are the countries surrounding Iran. Luckily I don't really care much for Israel. ((jk))

While yes this is an important issue. I come here to get away from stuff like this. Please give some heads up when you make posts like this. No I don't always look at where the thread is before I tap on it from my phone.

blackmarker90 edited the title.

I get that this deal is about improving US/Iran Relations, and is also about helping them to develop. Look, if it works, great, i'll eat my words. However, it is a fact that the middle east is split on the idea of development. Some countries, like Saudi Arabia, love "westernization". Some, like Iraq, do not. Sure the Iranian government might be all for it, but it could cause issues with those with more extreme tendencies in their population.

On top of that, while dropping the trade sanctions may help improve relations between the US and them, China and Russia are closer and will have lower prices. There is little reason for Iran to not trade with them.

My favorite part of this story is how the leaders of Iran want nothing more than to commit suicide to wipe Isreal and the USA off the face of the earth to bring about the rise of the 12th emom or whatever... And if you don't believe me its not hard to Google it and watch videos of them saying so. But for whatever reason Obama has his head in the sand and thinks they want nuclear power for peaceful reasons, even though they are the largest state sponsers of terrorism in the world.

This, as opposed to gay marriage being legalized, is a legitimate reason to want to move to Canada.

Why exactly do we care about helping a country to develop when that country is essentially a totalitarian terrorist state that is responsible for some of the worst modern human rights violations in the world? We should completely isolate them until their people rebel and install a democracy. But we won't do that, because we want the oil. And the U.N. is gutless, what with China and Russia having spots on the Security Council. So we'll just let them develop nukes, legally acquire conventional weapons (Obama is dropping the arms treaty against Iran as part of this deal), and "modernize" their economy, while continuing to support terrorist groups, suppress women, and stone gays. Sounds like a fantastic treaty to me.

They don't stone gay people.... They bind their hands and feet and throw them off a tall building. If they live they weren't gay and they try to save their life!
