Building first computer help

I used to build computers back in high school, some years back but I haven't been able to keep up with it afterwards. So my dear mtg friends who happen to enjoy computer gaming as well, where would you go to build a pc, and what would you put into it?

My budget is roughly 800-1000. I used to use newegg and tigerdirect and I've visited them, but I'm not sure which parts I should buy.

Any and all help would be awesome.

I would recommend checking out pcpartpicker. You can find other people's builds and tweak it from there, and it checks to ensure that your parts are compatible before you purchase them.

Double and triple check your connections once it's built. A guy I went to high school with spent over $1000 building his computer, only to forget to plug one (very important) cable in. Fried the whole damn thing the first time he hit the power button.

And make sure all your parts have a slot on the motherboard.

If your GPU needs a PCIe4 slot, but you've only got a PCI2, you're not gonna have as much fun.
