Candlestick Hotdogs

Whenever the power goes out (like it did for me just now), my brother and I immediately feel the primal, atavistic need to light some candles and roast hotdogs and marshmallows over them. One time, we even made toast with a lighter. Is this a common instinct, or is this a personal issue?
Have you actually done it? The one time I toasted bread over a candle it was inedible. Don't recommend.

If you're not using a blow torch, you're not doing it right.

Problem with that would be the residue that comes off of it. It would taste waxy, and gross. Probably not the healthiest either. You can try it with something else that won't burn. Hold it above the flame, let it cool, then when you feel it there'll be a black waxy film. You could though make a stand to hold a pot/pan above a candle...

The residue also has the unfortunate downside of flavoring the food with the candle scent, but what can I say. Ocean Breeze hotdogs hit different at 10 pm in the cold and dark.

It's actually a survival instinct, to get warm around a heat source and to prepare food.
