"...our hopes of a non-black champion."

Gotta choose your words, man.

Before this turns into some sort of misplaced anger, it was in the context of the Standard top 8 at this week's SCG open. Only one of the decks in the semifinals wasn't a mono-black devotion variant. Patrick was referring to the mono-red deck that was contending with them.
To be clear, there were no racist undertones. The post is and was meant to be lighthearted.

Man, that seems like a boring semi finals to watch....
Go red guy.

Red guy won. Monored aggro strategies won both the Standard open and the Invitational.

Nice, I guess?
At least it's not MBD, or MUD for a change.
(I don't follow standard, so it may not be as stagnant as I think it is....)

MUD has been out of favor for a while now. MBD has changed quite a bit, branching into Bw and Bg for off-color utility. It's core stayed the same, though.
The new big players in Standard are Jund monsters and Boros Burn. Both have been doing quite well lately.
There's a chance that MUD will come back into favor, though, if mono-red gains enough steam.
