This year is the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy VI, the sixth main installment of the Final Fantasy franchise, and the last game to be released on a Nintendo system. Like most of the previous games, it was set in a pseudo-medieval fantasy world, with traces of more modern technology, blending different genres for an exciting and memorable experience. Final Fantasy VI has fourteen playable characters, the most of any game in the franchise and an unusually high number of playable characters for any RPG, which typically have between seven and nine playable characters, but the writers of the game were still able to make each character feel distinct and unique, in terms of both personality and abilities. The story of the game begins with a fairly standard plot of a band of rebels fighting against an evil empire, but it an excellent and compelling story, with numerous twists and moments of great emotion, as well as an amazing cast of characters, including one of the most memorable villains in video gaming history: Kefka Palazzo, whose capricious and unpredictable nature made him even more dangerous, and one other aspect of the story that made him such a compelling villain is how he began as a minor threat and eventually grew in power, compared to how most villains in the series had possess great power and authority from the very beginning. The final battle against Kefka is definitely one of the great moments in video gaming, and also features some of the most epic background music ever to be composed, as well, a perfect culmination to what many players consider to be one of the greatest games ever made.

I played Final Fantasy VI for the first time, several years ago, mainly because I had heard about how amazing of a villain Kefka was, so I wished to witness his villainy, for myself, and I am very glad that I chose to play that game, as I enjoyed every moment of it. I certainly felt the emotions of the characters and tension of the story as I played the game, and I certainly enjoyed the gameplay, as well. I even made an effort to achieve 100% completion, finding every item, obtaining every ability for the characters, and fighting the optional bosses, so that I could have the full and proper experience, and I am very glad that I did so.

Final Fantasy VI, like most of the games in the franchise released before it switched from Nintendo to Sony systems, is not as popular as the more recent games, but it still has dedicated fans, who praise the game for its immersive story and well-written characters, so I dearly hope that Square Enix gives attention to this most momentous milestone, that they commemorate this anniversary, but, unfortunately, the release of the second part of the remake of Final Fantasy VII has overshadowed it, so I am not certain how much attention people shall devote to it, but, regardless of how this anniversary is celebrated, there is no doubt that Final Fantasy VI is one of the best and most popular videos games of its era, and it deserves to be remembered.

What does everyone else say about this? Are you celebrating the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy VI?

It is truly wonderful to see another user as compelled and as inspired by the Final Fantasy series as I was. I've played several of them over the years, my first one being FF7.

I managed to collect 1 through 6 on my GBA (that's a Gameboy advance for you young whippersnappers) and have played 1&2, 4, 5, and 6. All amazing games. Kefka is my favorite villain of any Final Fantasy, and as an honorable mention Judge Gabranth from 12.

Final Fantasy 6 (imo) is SUPER underrated and I have always been infatuated with the development of Kefka as this seemingly cruel but mostly ignored (by the party) background goon, who typically would be a beat him once and were done kind of villain. And then he goes in an entirely different direction.

I was truly overwhelmed by all of the optional content that I did discover, letalone all of the content I failed to discover. I was playing this game in eighth grade right after I had finished FFX. Simpler times.

Hope someone else shares some memories for Final Fantasy!

Hmm only one I've truly finished is ff4. Also my favorite ff game love the story and music top 5 games ive ever played.

I've played 1 2 3 4 crystal chronicals (crimanally underrated in the game cube version dont bother with its remake) and then took hiatus until 10. Recently picked up ff7 remake but can't seem to convince myself to play the original while waiting for the next installment. Graphics have come a long way in the last couple decades.

Final fantasy has a place in many people's hearts.
