I don't trust anything that happens under the Obama administration. I do not trust, at any circumstances, that this is coincidence or was not intentional. The reason why this was pushed is that is obscure to me.

Man, conspiracy theory are nothing but sham... :(
If there's a political reason to it, it is that it's going to help him regain popularity (like when he made a video for Buzzfeed, or the little show he made with his anger translator). Nothing more, nothing less! :/

American law is obscure to me. Mostly because it seems to be a system built upon ideal circumstances which never came to be. Historically (at least my historical interpretation) it seems that the founders never imagined a party system. Which leads to various complications...
Being a parliamentary democracy Canada is pretty much like the UK. But I believe instead of the House of Lords we have a Senate. However, that might not be quite right...
Anyway, congrats to America for becoming slightly more free. Please now convert to the metric system.

I have two moms and a dad (divorced) who have very different opinions on this ruling. My moms are of course ecstatic that they can get married in the state of Georgia, something they thought would not happen in their lifetimes. My dad wishes that the federal government had stayed out of it and let the states eventually approve gay marriage. I believe he was also worried that the way they came about this ruling could set a precedent for other rulings like marriages between multiple people. Obviously my parents have very, very different political views. These are my parents' opinions on the matter, and not mine just to clarify. Overall I'm very happy with the decision.

xzzane I have relatives in Utah that have voiced their concerns over the polygamists using a supreme court ruling to validate their choice of marriage. Evidently it's a common belief over there. Honestly they have a point, technically consenting adults should be able to do as they please now with regard to marriage. I also don't see it as a valid reason to oppose same sex marriage but that is where we could be headed.

Rasta_Viking29: I feel that.

People keep saying that it opens the door for polygamy but I don't really see a problem. As long as people are happy and have their freedom then it seems like a fine concept.

This is just saying that the ruling made was somewhat vague and therefore is applicable to a variety of freedom and equality issues covered by the constitution. There probably is going to be a push to bring state law in line with constitutional law through a process of clarification and pressure on those states that don't comply. Is this necessarily a bad thing? You could argue it's about time that these key issues are all brought in line.
