I first watched the version of full metal that deviated from the manga (got lectured from manga nerd of mine).
I saw what supposedly was teh first eppisode of brother hood and it was starting off when Ed and Al were already skilled and randomly were hunting this ice alchemist dude. is this the beginning?? seems inappropriate since so much startup was in the first full metal series...
here's where I went and there were other sites providing teh same episode list:

just wanna be sure cause I hear this series is 'vastly' superior to the first version (though I don't know how, the first series was incredible and unmatched in my opinion,) and I want to start from the beginning and not somewhere random and ruin it for me.
THNX.
so after the first episode I'll be on track? I 'only' saw half of the first episode cause I didn't wanna get screwed seeing something ahead.
If this is where I should start ten I'll get to watchin xD
just wanna be sure. my manga buddy isn't around for me to ask for a long while and I wanna watch it...

if you watch past the first episode, they go back and explain their whole back story. But really, why didn't you just keep watching and instead come here to ask if you should keep watching? Just watch it, it's great. Much like reading the card, watching the show answers most questions.

Brotherhood is, mainly, in my opinion, only really better from the point where the two stories diverge anyways; it rushes the early parts because a lot of people have already seen/read that by the time Brotherhood came out. I forget where it splits, but it's perfectly fine skipping ahead there.

FMA doesn't deviate from the Manga too much until they start discovering about the humunculi (at least that is what a friend of mine told me), after that it starts deviating and Brotherhood is far superior.

I stopped watching cause the original series started from 'the' beginning and I thought this one would be a copy and paste from the original unil the divergant point. guess I'll keep watching then, sounds like they compressed it up to the divergent point. kinda annoying, I did see the original series but still, I want to see it all and not some compressed version... o well.
THNX, sound slike I just need to keep going, I'm on teh right track.

I really need to go back and finish that as well. Stopped reading the manga years ago when Volume... sixteen or seventeen was the latest one. Then years later started Brotherhood and watched til I was current with what I had read... and then stopped watching cuz i wanted to read it first. Again, years later, and I have finished neither. Gotta get on that.

The first episode of FMA:B is an anime-only event. It doesnt appear in the manga or the first anime. However, it's basically an exposition episode, introducing the characters, the world they live in, and the powers they command- namely alchemy. It's primarily geared towards people who were not versed in the manga or the original anime. But otherwise the series follows the events of the manga.
