Well he is dressed similarly to the Hun or whatever from Mulan...not that I know much about history but wasn't that also set in China? I never considered it seriously, until now.

He is standing on a wall that groups from Bant built during the shard convergence, to keep the Beasts of Naya out from one side (which have some enchantments to tame the beasts), and the ever-probing clutches of the Esper Vedalkens' research and mining (which are artifact-based).
