A place for the wondrous population of T/O to exercise their weirdness in common chat and not even realize that it is weird :D

I have to agree with Caligula on this one. You're right VampireArmy that song was from the 90's. Mad Season was a great band. You might recognize their lead singer he was also the lead singer for Alice in Chains, among other bands.

creating a sub genre seems like just a sly way of fitting into the original genre if you ask me. :P

How else could one describe it? It doesn't really fit the formula of any other mentioned. I don't mean to overclassify it but when I think of hard rock I think of like Skillet you know?

Skillet... aren't they that Christian Rock band?
February 27, 2015 12:21 p.m.
@VampireArmy if there's one thing I've known my whole life. It's been metal music, I'm very aware of the nuances and genres that go into all the subtypes of metal.
I've honestly eased off of it because alot of the music coming out of the scene now is just recycle'd music it seems.
I think you'd enjoy The Black Dahlia Murder Which alot of those bands like Bring me the Horizon try to imitate and fail.
You might enjoy Arsis as well
Hate Eternal, Suffocation (Drum cam because Dave Culross is a fucking BOSS), and Behemoth
We're all metal monsters when I was growing up. But now it's just gotten way to filtered into the Pop-Punk, Posi genres.
Kinda sad because metal was all about the negative side of the spectrum.
February 27, 2015 12:25 p.m.
@VampireArmy I'd go as far as saying that Pierce the Veil could be pop-punk w/metal influences
February 27, 2015 12:27 p.m.
No Pierce the Veil are post hardcore / New Wave of American Heavy Metal. Like, for certain.
February 27, 2015 12:29 p.m.

That's actually what I was going to say but i accidently closed out my tab haha Caligula. Posthardcore in general is like a heavier punk. Evoltution I guess.
As for bands, I listened to Black Dahlia murder a bit when I was younger along with a few others like Arch Enemy, Deicide, dimmu Borgior, and some I can't even remember anymore. I like that stuff too just not as much anymore
February 27, 2015 12:30 p.m.
It's important not to confuse hardcore which is a punk subgenera with metalcore which is a metal subgenre. Like the difference between say...... Pierce the Veil and Trivium.
February 27, 2015 12:31 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #13
That's also true. Further into the rabbit hole you go, the more confusing it becomes

Raven u already tippin a cup brah lmao go hard though
February 27, 2015 12:33 p.m.
Ah ha, Yeah i'm huge into the heavier side of metal, It's really an acquired taste, I went through Arch Enemy, Dimmu and the likes.
Moved into technical death metal like Necrophagist, Cryptopsy and Origin.
Now I just listen to everything.
February 27, 2015 12:34 p.m.
Also surprised no ones talking about mastodon, who are like among the only metal bands worth listening to.
February 27, 2015 12:34 p.m.
Mastodon is unreal.
Their later stuff has slipped a bit though IMO, Still a wicked band though.
I'll never stop listening to Opeth, When it comes to Prog metal there is NOTHING BETTER.
February 27, 2015 12:37 p.m.
PreZchoICE1 says... #19
haha thats funny I played some Trivium for my sister and she thought it was too crazy lmao
younger generation definitely understands the subgenres better than I do thats for sure
I grew up on stuff like Pantera, Metallica, Iron Maiden
number of the beast still a favorite, makes me get the scrunchy face everytime

I don't really like Opeth's newer stuff. It's more prog than it is metal. You should check out Agalloch.
February 27, 2015 12:39 p.m.
@PreZchoICE1 Fuck yes Pantera. I used to mean mug to them all the time.
@fluffybunnypants agree'd, I've always liked the Behemoth sound. So crushing.

February 27, 2015 12:45 p.m.

PreZchoICE1: They're incredible. They really are. It will be very, very difficult for me to go back to UltraPro after these- and the 4 pockets are incredibly appealing aesthetically (as a collector, I like having full sets of cards, and this really supports that.)
They don't sell to the U.S though, which is a real hassle. Hence, I got the double pack over Massdrop. 2 for 60 USD. Not bad at all.
February 27, 2015 12:48 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #42
Worth noting here :Ultra pro has a 4 pocket one now
February 27, 2015 12:48 p.m.
Yeh I basically only listen to experimental electronic music now. Metal did get a bit old and boring for me. There's so much more range in music that's not limited by physical instruments.
February 27, 2015 12:49 p.m.
How about some Cannabis Corpse - Tube of the Resinated Classic metal stoner beats.
February 27, 2015 12:50 p.m.
@ChiefBell I feel you on that, I've been really into Tokimonsta, Bonobo and Flying Lotus lately.
February 27, 2015 12:51 p.m.
PreZchoICE1 says... #49
yeah massdrop is the shit I was checking it out, seems like it will just be a moneypit though so Im leery
February 27, 2015 12:52 p.m.
I wish they'd make those 4 pocket binders textured like mine lol.I got SO many compliments on my binder and I haven't seen any others like it so I'm just going to hold out till they finally do make one like it.
VampireArmy says... #1
It's not really either. It's post hardcore :P shit is a blend of poprock, grunge, and metal influences. Some bands get more technical others will bring in softer melodies, others turn to digital sounds.
Like you will hear a very distinct difference between This song
And this song
And this one
