Very cool. So what sparked your fascination with Japan, out of curiosity?

elpokitolama I'm an undergrad, so no.
xzzane you can thank/blame the Canadian education system. Most of the history that we study is very Euro-centric and by grade 12 I was getting tired of it. I've always loved History and English and have always been academically inclined. The fact that the curriculum never expanded outside of Europe felt tedious. So, when my Grade 12 History teacher promised to cover the Pacific Theater of WWII I was pumped. He didn't cover it. So I then decided to do my own research, which led me to Japan's military history, which led me to its cultural history, which finally led me to researching the Sengoku Jidai Period.

CanadianShinobi, here's a video you might find interesting.

I was fortunate in that my history teachers covered more than just the west. They covered very little on the middle east though. So what about the Sengoku Jidai period do you like in particular?

CanadianShinobi I know the feeling. My classes also tend to be very much about Europe and I found it preposterous that when we studied WW2, we spend 100% of the time talking about the Holocaust in Europe and D-day landings. The teacher didn't mention Japan or the Pacific war once. It infuriated me.

I don't generally talk bad about people, but I can't stand IndiMeta. He is either a very good troll or an idiot beyond help. Either way, I no longer feel able to read any of his threads

I normally laugh at first, but then it just becomes sad. Shortly after feeling bad for the guy is when the frustration begins to build

Also, I really don't like this 50 comment per page thing. It's too much.

It is very long. Maybe shorten it down to like 30 comments per page?

xzzane I like the Sengoku period for the wrong reasons. Mostly because samurai are cool. It's a bad reason for a historian to have, but it also is a time which led to significant political and cultural change. I don't care much for the Edo period, but I would argue that Japan's peaces have done more to shape the country than its conflicts, which is not always the case historically. However, the Sengoku Period interests me mostly because of it's socio-political aspects.

DERPLINGSUPREME, I don't now about the others, but the sneezing one is wrong. People say "Bless you" because it used to be considered that you were possessed by evil spirits/demons when you sneezed. Hence the "bless" part is them imparting their blessing onto you in hopes of banishing the spirit/demon so it doesn't go to possess others.
