It's probably good as a singleton at least in Young Pyromancer decks.

Not good as a singleton. This is very similar to AEther Vial. Crap as a top deck, but an absolute backbreaking T1. I couldn't see a deck running less than 3.

I think it certainly has potential, perhaps as a 4 of instead of the Stormbreaths and Finks (I don't necessarily have a problem with stormbreath, but I do think the finks are a bit awkward.)
The deck has potential to abuse Myth Realized due to not only the high amount of low cost instants, but the massive value that can be gained from Lingering souls.
If your opponent dumps an Abrupt Decay to kill your T1 Myth, allowing you to play your young pyromancer in relative safety, you have come out extremely far ahead in such a trade.

i was playing blue moon JexInfinite. not grixis, although my grixis list performs quite well in the current meta. a resolved Blood Moon makes things difficult, but it isn't unbeatable.

Just finished playing against a traditional BGx attrition deck. We played 2 incredibly grindy games for about an hour, and I basically decked myself.

Okay, I was a sex-ed teacher for today.
I'm on steam, in a chat from the group "Girl Gamers". There's this girl on here, 17. She doesn't know what porn is. Doesn't know what trans is. Only knows one definition to sex and that is "gender".
Me and another girl that I'm talking to are just "Hooo Boy". And then 7 hours later I have this girl taught. But basically, she lives in a foster home in Australia, she isn't allowed to leave the house, she is ignored by pretty much everyone else there, and is only taught English and Math. She knows absolutely NOTHING about the world.
She could very well be a troll or an attention whore, but I didn't like the potential consequences of her not being a troll and being a thrust into the world not knowing any of this, so I spent a good portion of the day teaching her about sex.
I am tired.

Personally, I wouldn't have bothered, because my incredibly biased anti-sex attitude would probably rub off onto them, and then I would be blamed for showing someone the light.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
THIS IS FUCKING SERIOUS.
I just ... I don't even know what to do.
This girl is 17, living in the slums in Australia, and has been having sex with the guys there for god knows how long three times a week and she doesn't even know what it was she was doing. The girls there are basically told to respect the men and if they "get into trouble" they go without food or water for 4 days.

I'll be fine. This certainly isn't the first time I've helped others against insurmountable odds and it won't be the last. I can't get these people out of their situations so all I can do is teach and direct them to deal with what they are experiencing.
But here's the kicker to end it all, she doesn't even know where she lives.

ChiefBell is right, and there isn't anything we can do about it besides just support the victim. The Foster home owners apparently don't know of what she is doing because she didn't even know herself. She can't go to them and complain because they are putting terrible conditions onto her, that and she, from the men's point of view, has been going along consensually for the past who knows how long. If the police are brought into this, they can't do anything, because of this lack of knowledge this girl has of the world and because the Foster home is in the slums.
March 15, 2015 6:33 a.m.
It's actually best in many cases to not explore trauma in individuals who aren't aware that trauma has happened, just because often they aren't equipped to deal with it.

That shit is nasty. Instead of not helping to instill my values, I would not help because I'm not a nice person.
Honestly, there's basically nothing you can do for her. Considering she has Steam, it's likely just a joke. Besides, if she's consented to it, you really can't do anything about it.
March 15, 2015 6:56 a.m.
JexInfinite says... #36
But if it IS legit, it is more than likely she would be living in Western Australia, or Darwin. Again, there is nothing you can actually do aside from impart knowledge. I doubt she would end up changing her lifestyle, because she wouldn't be able to.
However, even though knowledge is a gift, it can also be a burden. I'm not going to go into that any further, because it would probably just stress you out really badly, and we don't want that. If there's nothing we can do, there's probably no point saying it.

As for the whole it happens everywhere statement, I am reasonably confident that is doesn't happen everywhere, Possibly in England but I have no idea.
To become a foster parent you have to be certified, Which means you are capable of tending to your foster child's health and wellbeing and homeschooling if it was/is necessary. There are slight variations from state to state but the certificate remains largely the same.
WA Source with a Government web domain
When it comes to homeschooling there are eight areas that you as the parent or guardian have to ensure your child knows, I'll link specifics but health is included in here. It is up to the carer to ensure that these areas are covered sufficiently.
Vic wed domain link for homeschooling
I would assume that periodically a representative of the relevant department within the government would check in to make sure the foster child is living in a suitable environment and that her foster parents are adequate.
March 15, 2015 7:04 a.m.
Actually, you can't consent to abuse. And you can't consent under duress. And you can't consent if you don't know what you're doing. So there is a lot she can do about it, if she wishes. However that's for when she's older.
March 15, 2015 7:05 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #39
I agree that it is most likely in WA or Central Australia.
March 15, 2015 7:06 a.m.
bijschjdbcd: You know it's really easy to hide abuse right? Because a) a lot of the time it isn't physical, and b) because the victims rely on the guardians for food and shelter they'd NEVER say anything.
Like yeah, you're right yo uDO need certification for all these things but it's not hard to scrub up once a year for the official visit, and the rest of the time beat and whore out those you're supposed to be looking after.
I've had patients from America, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, England, Spain...... loads of other places that all tell the same story. Regardless of what legislature is in place by the government, abuse happens in every country in the world.
March 15, 2015 7:09 a.m.
Unfortunately the fact that I have a job is proof that this kind of stuff happens everywhere.
(The treatment centre I work in is internationally renowned and noted to have one of the highest recovery rates in the world - hence I get to meet patients from all over the world).

Abuse is lot more specific than whatever was previously mentioned.
Mental abuse can be spotted almost as easily as physical abuse.
While your correct in the "scrubbing an interview" idea I recall reading something about random interviews to prevent that happening.
This 'almost' exclusively happens in the most out lying communities which is why they could potentially get away with it, There is a reason why there are so many jobs relating to indigenous health and wellbeing advertised.
It's an area which is actively being addressed.
March 15, 2015 7:22 a.m.
What was previously mentioned would certainly fall under the category of 'systematic abuse'.
Mental abuse actually really can't be spotted easily, for a host of reasons. Even when it can be spotted, it's almost impossible to make right.
Reasons include:
Denial. The victim refuses to believe there's any abuse going on. Victim refuses to name perpetrators.
Codependency. The victim seeks the abusers love or care and therefore the same as above applies. They will never say any abuse has taken place, they will never name abuser.
Stockholm syndrome. Extreme codependency. The abused feels sympathetic towards the abuser,, because they depend on them in some way. Again, they won't claim or show any evidence of abuse.
Normalising. The abused does not identify as having trauma because they think 'its normal' and 'everyone goes through this'.
Self esteem. The abused believe they 'deserve' to be punished etc and therefore never report any abuse.
All of these reasons cause a very complicated series of events where basically you end up with an abused person who presents as completely normal. They mask their feelings. They never talk about the event. You would never, ever know that anything has happened.
Mental abuse is VERY hard to spot.
Again, this is my job. I'm trained to spot these things. It's not easy - I can tell you that from experience.
How many years have you been a therapist?
March 15, 2015 7:33 a.m.
I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just getting slightly irritated that you're arguing with me about something I have a lot of experience with and I presume you have none? (or I would have thought so because saying mental abuse is as easy to spot as physical abuse is just.... wildly inaccurate).
March 15, 2015 7:35 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #45
The whole topic and situation can be called a very complicated series of events.
I understand that you are trained in the field, But so are those who go around and check on foster parents.

Key word in what I said about Mental vs Physical was almost.
Maybe not on this magnitude for the reasons you stated.

But if it's your job to deal with abused people, wouldn't you see a hell lot more of them than we do? Yeah, there are heaps, probably right under our noses, but I doubt it would happen 'everywhere'.
Oh, and abuse doesn't happen in Iceland, because nobody lives there.
In other news, my mouse has screwed up badly, so I'll need to get another one, or live with horribly low dpi.

But is there really anything you can legally do? If she denies abuse, and there is no certain evidence, you can't remove her from the town. It would be very difficult to take her from the foster parents if they haven't been abusing her, and then you would affect their lives, too. You can't force them to leave the town, especially is the abuse is only suspected, and can't be proven.
I think trying to class it as abuse is not correct without actually seeing the situation. We're going off of second hand text here, so our judgment is probably inaccurate.
