I might say that math is more fun than history, but it's only rather easily accessible up until calculus. Have fun teaching yourself complex analysis out of a book, haha.

How the American Occupation Changed Japan

Perhaps one of the curiosities of history that is often glossed over when studying Western Civilization is the American Occupation of Japan after World War Two. While formally acknowledged as an Allied occupation, the Occupation was generally handled by American military forces. This was for various reasons, but the fundamental ones were to due to America's focus on the Pacific theater and to promote Japan as a purely democratic country. This fact in particular is notable because America wished to avoid a similar situation that had occurred with Germany when the Soviet Union occupied the eastern half.

The aims of the Occupation were straight forward: to rebuild Japan into a democratic nation which would be loyal to American and by extension, Allied policies. This was a direct attempt to counteract both Chinese and Soviet ideologies within the East. However, this goal was severely misinformed. Firstly, it must be noted that prior to WWI Japan, while an Empire did possess democratic traits. In deed, Japan fought as part an ally of Great Britain in the First World War, securing German colonies in the South Pacific. It was only because of American and British arrogance and exclusion that Japan became increasingly hostile towards the Allied powers. Because of this, Japan became increasingly conservative politically during the interwar periods. Though internal problems also contributed to this, it is largely held that these problems stemmed from feelings of diplomatic isolation that the West created.

The Occupation also wished to abolish Japan's militaristic tendencies. This was largely accomplished due to the peace treaties which restricted Japan immensely in terms of military power. However, it is erroneous to view Japan as a purely military society. WHile the tenets of Bushido are still practiced today, the majority of Japanese society was (and is) beholden to Zen Buddhism. A religion known for its peaceful meditation and contemplation. Largely the American aims were arguably imperialistic in nature. The Occupation led to a shift in Japanese culture, including how Japan reflects upon its militaristic past during the early 20th century. The American Occupation also introduced stringent censorship laws, which created the roots of modern censorship and notions of censorship today.

While Japan ultimately thrived economically, and still possesses a distinct and vibrant culture today, it is erroneous to believe that the Occupation did not leave its scars.

Always.

bijschjdbcd says... #15

Control decks perform best when they know what you are doing, Once a metagame matures better control decks are made and tuned.

I would probably say that is a contributing factor.
