No, Quebec broke away from France in the 1800s, so a while back.

And the two are allies now...

Quick off topic question... Am I allowed to ask card A vs card B questions in deck help pertaining to the deck in question?

Im kinda short on goat tokens to sacrifice today..

ThisIsBullshit says... #6

Certainly! Like asking if one card or another would work better in the deck? I'm pretty sure that's totally legal

On the sheer fact that Canada is too damn cold for most of the year, I'm gonna have to say France > Canada. Both have their charms, pros and cons... But Canada's winter pushes France ahead of it, at least for me.

kyuuri117, I was able to go in dress pants and short sleeved top in the dead of winter. There was snow only for half of a day for the entire year I've been here.

March 20, 2015 11 p.m.

Femme_Fatale I hate you. Do you even know what Ontario winter is like?

March 20, 2015 11:02 p.m.

So I went back to designing a set that I started working on like two years ago. Damn I made some fun cards.

I quite like Bavaria. The winters are relatively warm (about 4C, but no wind), the landscape is beautiful, and it's honestly a pretty decent place to live.

Though apparently Melbourne is one of the best cities in the world, so I guess I should be content.

I went to Quebec for a few weeks to go skiing and visit Montreal. It was between -15 and 10 degrees Fahrenheit both weeks we were there, ignoring the wind chill factor. Of course, it was super windy.... And as such, absolutely freezing. The underground mall thing was pretty cool though. Food was also pretty good in the city. But the cold was unbearable.

March 21, 2015 12:18 a.m.

I don't feel like making a new thread until I do some more cards. I trust you all to give decent advice.

Is this OP?

Blackwatch Paladin

Art

Creature -- Human Knight(MR)

Deathtouch, lifelink

Veterancy 1 (Whenever a creature dealt combat damage by this creature this turn dies, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.)

Remove a +1/+1 counter from Blackwatch Paladin: Blackwatch Paladin deals 1 damage to target creature or player.

Theirs is Ryistrat's most sacred steel.

Epoch it looks pretty cool and has the innistrad vampire feel with the veterancy ability.

Oh and does anyone know what happens when one player has a infinite damage combo going on their turn while the opponent can gain infinite life. Can the opponent interrupt you to gain life? or can you just retain priority? I didn't think this needed its own forum.

March 21, 2015 12:54 a.m.

Always ask rules questions in the Q&A. We get SEO points for having new Q&A threads.

"Infinite" is not actually possible. When you "go infinite," you're actually repeating the loop an arbitrarily large number of times. By the rules, you're supposed to declare what this number is.

That said, it depends on the loop. Some kinds of infinite damage loops (infinite mana + Spikeshot Elder, for example) don't require priority passes between abilities, so you can load the stack with, say, a number of abilities equal to the factorial of the US national debt (this is my favorite arbitrarily large number to declare). Other loops may require priority passes if they rely on resolutions to perpetuate themselves.

Either way, it doesn't actually matter. The damage abilities won't start resolving until players pass priority in succession, and there's a round of priority between every resolution. The opponent will always get a chance to respond, and may simply respond with "I will gain 2 life for every 1 damage you are about to deal."

Now we get to fragmented loops, which basically means that the active player must make a decision that advances the game state. If the active player activates an ability to deal 1 damage, and the non-active player activates an ability to gain 1 life, then the game state has returned to its previous state. The active player can make any new choice besides the one he or she previously made, which means he or she can't activate the damage ability again.

This means that the non-active player will have the final say in determining the outcome of the loop.

716.3. Sometimes a loop can be fragmented, meaning that each player involved in the loop performs an independent action that results in the same game state being reached multiple times. If that happens, the active player (or, if the active player is not involved in the loop, the first player in turn order who is involved) must then make a different game choice so the loop does not continue.

Example: In a two-player game, the active player controls a creature with the ability "0: [This creature] gains flying," the nonactive player controls a permanent with the ability "0: Target creature loses flying," and nothing in the game cares how many times an ability has been activated. Say the active player activates his creature's ability, it resolves, then the nonactive player activates her permanent's ability targeting that creature, and it resolves. This returns the game to a game state it was at before. The active player must make a different game choice (in other words, anything other than activating that creature's ability again). The creature doesn't have flying. Note that the nonactive player could have prevented the fragmented loop simply by not activating her permanent's ability, in which case the creature would have had flying. The nonactive player always has the final choice and is therefore able to determine whether the creature has flying.

March 21, 2015 1:07 a.m.

Wait, doesn't that just wipe your opponents' boards as soon as it gets a +1/+1 counter?

March 21, 2015 1:07 a.m.

@ItchiUchiha117: No. Veterancy triggers only if the creature that died was dealt combat damage by the veteran creature. Ability damage is never combat damage.

You didn't think I'd make a one-card machine gun, did you?

March 21, 2015 1:09 a.m.

Oh, missed the combat damage part. To be honest, I don't know. We don't exactly talk, so I don't really know what kind of magic you like. Actually, if it required a tap to activate, too, I think it could lose the combat part.

March 21, 2015 1:13 a.m.

Well, the veterancy ability exists independently of this card. It's more balanced with the combat requirement, and it more appropriately fits the flavor.

I take a practical approach to most things, including design. I favor balance, and I like the challenge of designing something interesting and feasibly printable. I'm not someone who likes to create win-the-game cards.

As a player, on the other hand, I do some incredibly broken things to win.

March 21, 2015 1:15 a.m.

sirbar says... #31

Sorry Epoch didn't know that and thank you for your explanation. If you are wondering the board state was that I controlled and animar, pestermite, cloudstone curio and was looping the untap target land effect to cast punishing fire and return it to my hand with grove of the burnwillows. My opponent had the sword of the meek/thopter foundry combo with mana open to start the combo.

March 21, 2015 1:18 a.m.

@sirbar: How were you bouncing Pestermite? Also, how were you generating the to keep paying for Pestermite?

March 21, 2015 1:23 a.m.

sirbar says... #33

Cloudstone Curio and when Pestermite was entering the battlefield I was untapping a Izzet Boilerworks.

March 21, 2015 1:27 a.m.

You need another creature in order to bounce Pestermite.

Whenever a nonartifact permanent enters the battlefield under your control, you may return another permanent you control that shares a permanent type with it to its owner's hand.

March 21, 2015 1:31 a.m.

sirbar says... #35

Hmm well then I need to rework this deck. I was told a that this work and read some other animar deck that had this combo but I never looked into it that heavily and missed the "another" clause.

JexInfinite says... #36

Epoch, what about a Typhoid Rats with first strike and veterancy that deals 1 damage to you for each creature that dies?

March 21, 2015 2:03 a.m.

@JexInfinite: It seems too good when you consider that it's a super cheap blocker that wins all day in Limited and against aggro. Or at least kills anything until someone spends a removal spell on it.

March 21, 2015 2:06 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #38

Well, the mana cost could be changed. Typhoid Rats was an example of a 1/1 deathtouch, rather than mana cost.

March 21, 2015 2:41 a.m.

It's possible, I suppose.

In terms of set context, deathtouch is not very common. It's seen largely in the / Blackwatch, which, canonically, fight with vampiric blades.

Veterancy is largely a // mechanic.

March 21, 2015 2:56 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #40

That would probably make it a mythic rare with 3CMC of all coloured mana.

Gah, there are no interesting threads at the moment. It feels so empty and dead. Or maybe that's just me expecting something to happen.

March 21, 2015 3:10 a.m.

No, the site's pretty dead right now.

To be fair, it's usually dead on Friday nights and Saturday mornings because of FNM and general debauchery.

Hotel coffee is actually really good. Hotel coffee costs money. Shit.

Also, veterancy is cool! And it would be cool if veterancy stacked with other veterancy, like exalted. But that would be crazy if we had another Sublime Archangel.

lol I can't drink yet. And I have a prerelease to go to in two hours.
