I'm glad the League play is starting soon, I'll be able to play Magic again.
March 24, 2015 9:14 p.m.
Fair enough. I've never been able to build a naya deck. Same goes for gruul. I'm presuming its marath combo yeah?
March 24, 2015 9:19 p.m.
So I just got murdered by a mini gun turret in a dark souls game. I'm confused. And upset.

Eh it can combo. It can win via mass tokens. It can machine gun. I'm running it to max versatility so that when one game plan isn't working i can go go for another

There's so much salt in that thread, I get dehydrated just thinking about it.
March 24, 2015 9:30 p.m.
I find the ruling annoying, but I'm just getting pissed off by the shear number of people who think that slapping a "casual" sticker on their deck means they can build it to be rubbish and then bitch when people screw with their board state. because apparently temporarily lossing access to one card maes their entire deck fall apart.

and here I thought the modern players were salty about the Pod banning
how wrong I was
March 24, 2015 9:34 p.m.
CanadianShinobi says... #26
My concerns lay in Modern. But aside from the League stuff coming up I think I'm taking a hiatus from the game. I'm just a little too frustrated with how things are these days.
March 24, 2015 9:36 p.m.
Its budget. Thats fair. I do find linear decks boring as batshit to play but I guess you do what you can with the dollars you have...
March 24, 2015 9:36 p.m.
ThisIsBullshit says... #28
Yeah enpc that too I mean yeah my Kaalia gets tucked all the time, does that mean I'm going to get salty about it? No. I'm just gonna demonic tutor or just play on without her. If you build a deck like that you have to understand that people will tuck your commander
March 24, 2015 9:36 p.m.
Its like, I shouldn't have to explain to a player who runs a ramp general that their deck needs other ramps sources. Because all I have to do is counter their general 2 or 3 times and the whole deck falls to pieces. No tucking required for that. But people don't seem to get it.
March 24, 2015 9:40 p.m.
ThisIsBullshit says... #30
Also, why is the RC catering to casual players? If they're truly casual they won't give a shit about the rules anyways
March 24, 2015 9:41 p.m.
VampireArmy says... #31
I lol because if you ask people like that to either play better or build better you get hit with the money argument. I laugh because ive taken down an old shop owners 6000 or so animar deck with my prossh premade.

Okay, ThisIsBullshit and enpc, putting the EDH thread aside, I want to address something because your comments have bothered me to an extent, though I assure you that you are not the root cause.
What I've noticed is how people use the term "salty". They seem to think that people who disagree with their views are, by default, salty and therefore wrong and ignorant. As someone with academic leanings I find this infuriating, because it utterly invalidates argument. Saying someone is "salty" is no more useful than providing a poorly structured argument. It is possible for someone to have a well reasoned argument, and one that is well constructed and still disagree with something. This doesn't make the person "salty".
The term is really bothersome to me because it feels like a cop out. You may as well tell someone that their opinion doesn't matter because you don't agree with it. And this is perfectly applicable to people being upset over the banning of Pod. These people have every reason to be upset. They have legitimate well founded reasons, namely they lost a substantial investment. They're allowed to be angry and frustrated. Just as well as Control players like myself are allowed to be bothered by the current state of the meta in Modern.

Sorry about that. It's kinda my go to word when referring to stuff like that
March 24, 2015 9:44 p.m.
Its not like the RC are retarded, thats whats so frustrating - most of them are high level judges. But they make a call and don't think about what it will do to the rest of the format.
And the really annoying thing is that they won't repeal the decision, and so either we will get stuck with OP commadners now or in a shor twhile commadners like Derevi wil lget banned because they're to broken. But the RC wont repeal a call becuase it comes across as them making a mistake.

seriously, I just ate some very salty corn chips.
I think the salt shaker spilled onto the chips.

That thread is salty. I was salty too at first then i unsalted.

VampireArmy that is all fine and good, but that is not how the term is applied. Ever. And it's the application of a term that gives it its meaning.

And therein lies the problem of trying to put the definition of a word linguistically to how someone thinks the definition of it means in an "it's the English language" sense. You can't tell someone that that's not the true definition of the word they are using. When you go and tell someone that the definition of a word is how they use it, they'll scoff at you and say "go read the dictionary".
March 24, 2015 9:53 p.m.
Why do people see it to be a good idea to make an "investment" in a format where the entire idea is to reprint cards so the price doesn't get out of hand? If you wanna spend money on magic then great do it because its a hobby. If you wanna make an investment specifically in magic well then you better go buy something that is on the reserved list. If you are not smart enough to do this don't be upset because you lost your investment. You are allowed to be upset because you just lost a piece of your hobby.

Etc. Etc.
It's all just the same thing in different words . Just ment to rile people up. Obviously they are interchangeable but those are the predominant places I've head those phrases.

Fuck the formatting of this site sometimes. I should be able to go to a new paragraph without formatting issues.

CanadianShinobi: Ok, let me rephrase this.
I have been playing magic now on and off for over 10 years. and I have been playing edh for over 2 years.
Since I started playing, I have always endeavoured to make my decks better. Up until recently, I didn't play in any tournaments, just with mates from uni. But we were always wanting to build better decks. We were also relatively poor (well, by comparison anyway). $5 was a lot to spend on a card. But we would look for options. they were not always great, but it was the best we could do on a budget.
Then with commander, my first deck sucked. It was bad. But I worked on it. I learnt how to build better decks. Now I play edh competetively and usually place in the top 3 in our leagues (I won the last one in fact). And I'm versing decks worth $2000+ with my saffi deck (worth less than $1000).
Why was I able to do this? becuase I always focused on making my decks better. Even my cheap decks are built using this mantra. I always make sure that my decks have certain elements, which keeps them consistent.
The other thing is - I play magic to relax. I don't need to play in tournaments, I'm usually happiest in a game with nothing on the line. But I understnad the rules of the game, and I don't get shitty when a commander is tucked or somebody plays removal. I undertand that its part of the game. ANd I'm happy to see the rest of my playgroup advancing in both their deckbuilding and gmae playing skills. Its actually really nice losing a game becuase the guy across from you has learnt how to play better from you being their example.
What I am getting annoyed about is the number of people who i see either on TO or in real life who are a bunch of premadonas about their deck. COunter a card they play, remove a permanant of their, tuck their genral and they get shitty. Its part of the game. If yo udon't like that, dont play. If your attitude toward other players is that bad that you cant stand them playing the game then get your shit together, or get the fuck out. (just to clarify, this is towards the hypothetical player, not anybody in particular).
Thats why I get annoyed. Becuase its not about a rule change specifically, its about the number of players who are so fragile that they can't stand to play against removal and the fact that the rules get changed to pander towards those players. The same players who are telling us that we need to "adapt". the only reason this happened was becasue of their ability to "adapt". And at the end of the day, I can change my deck. I will figure something else out. Because I know how to. But the same fragile player will keep playing with their decks, still not modifying them and then losing becuase everybody else adapted to the rules change. But then they will cry out that something else needs to be banned becuase they're not having fun.
So to those people I say, "have a cup of concrete and harden the fuck up". Thats my reasoning.

sirbar the problem is because for several people the banning of Pod destroyed their hobby. Their time and money became essentially worthless. Most people who are affected by this, don't have the extra money to simply rebuild a deck, especially if they want to play a high level deck, but not get into incredibly high levels of play. Are you suggesting these people have no right to be angry? Because you just said such people were stupid. There are several types of investment, perhaps you should consider that before making ludicrous statements.
