Let's talk beer

What's your poison, and why?
On a weekly basis I knock back a few Cooper's Premium Light. Has a decent body to it, and I prefer Light as it doesn't fill up the gut too much.
For special occasions it's a Pilsner Urqel for me, although I find that the quality varies. Best I ever had was right in the heart of Prague. Love the crispness.
If I am in the mood for something extra special I will go with either a Grolsch swing top, or a Chimay Brown.
Grolsch is just that classic German beer with a BIG hit of flavour.
Chimay is completely unique. Lightly fruity, with a hefty alcohol content. It's the only beer I know that you can actually cellar, like wine.
Not super big on hoppy beers; so I'll usually go for any red ale, brown ale, or Belgian white
Ultimately I'd say I drink more ciders than anything. Citizen's Cider is great, and is Angry Orchard and Stowe Cider
Jameson Irish Whiskey is my true drink of choice >:) but that gets expensive lmao

I hail from Portland, Oregon so call me a hipster but I truly am spoiled for choice in the IPA department and luckily, that is my preferred beer.
The Portland metro has many great breweries pumping out all variety of IPAs. From light in body, fruity, malty, and even cloudy New England style IPAs, Ive rarely met one I dont like.
I tend to like a nice hoppy profile with a fruity follow up. Its gotta be nice and citrusy.
Around winter Ill grab a real mealy dark beer occasionally. Something that warms you up and is almost a desert such as a Stout or Porter.
And if I must drink hard alcohol its gotta be Scotch with a rock or Whiskey for sipping.

I could tell you all about gluten-free beers, if you want, lol.
March 22, 2018 5:34 p.m.
I'll be honest, I cannot stand beer. I've been told by beer fans that I'm "just trying the wrong beers," but then am promptly displeased with their recommendations. I'll stick with gin, cognac, and bourbon!
That all said, I always keep bottles of Guinness on hand for cooking and baking. The overwhelming flavour of the Guinness is subdued, but still present after being cooked. Chocolate cake, bread, or stew made with Guinness can be quite delightful.

Gattison If youre into gluten-free beer, have you tried hopped cider? The girlfriend has a mild allergy to gluten but were drunkards so we needed to find something for her to drink and theyre actually not terrible. Lol

This is for beer talk, not everything else talk.
Start another topic if you wish to talk about other alcoholic drinks.

TheBoraxKid: I have tried Angry Orchad's hops cider, but not many others. I honestly don't really dig the taste of hops that much. However I do like the green/red apple Orchard's (but I think Woodchuck is better). Hard ciders count as beer-talk, right?
But, if your girlfriend is looking for something else, I prefer Redbridge, made by Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser), which I believe is more lager-like, similar to a Guinness, I've been told. Most other gluten-free stuff, like Omission, is more ale-like, which I personally don't like as much. If I could find another G-F lager I'd love to try it.
Argy: Mention liquor before beer, never fear. Mention beer before liquor, get blocked quicker. LOL

I am from the Beer state so I have had many options to try beer of all styles.
When I first started drinking, I thought I hated beer. Little did I know that I just hated the Lite/Light Beer people were giving me.
I personally am a fan of Leinenkugels Weisses, Shandys, and Oktoberfest.
However, if ever given the chance, I would recommend everyone try New Glarus Spotted Cow or Two Women. Another favorite of mine has always been Blue Moon with an orange wedge. I also had a really delicious Chai Tea Porter the other day but forgot what brand.
Also also, Corona with a lime wedge is always good.

My go to is a beer that's kind of regional called yeungling. It's a nice crisp lager. If your ever in the north east us I recommend it. Not a fan if ipa's really like Belgium whites and hefes. No a side note I'm going on a tour of the Guinness brewery in a few days. Yeungling
Pints up!

Another PDX resident here. My favorite makers are Pyramid, HUB, and Ninkasi. I like my beers strong and flavorful.
March 22, 2018 8:55 p.m.
I can't help endlessly trying new beers, but otherwise I'm in PA so Yuengling is an easy staple. Got some Pilsner from Latrobe, some Guinness Export 200th, some Belgians, some Troegs from Harrisburg all hanging out right now.

I'm usually drinking the cheap stuff, like Keystone Light or Natural Light. I'll have Bud Light or Busch Light on occasions, though.
Cannot drink Ice beer anymore. That gets me too fucked up.

xcn Pa resident as well, I like a lot of the same stuff that you do. I drink any porter/stout and I am not a huge fan of IPAs.

I'm like three hours away from Pottsville so it'll definitely have to be a planned thing.
I like pretty much any style of beer, but I've been trying a lot of funky sour wild fermented beers when I can lately.

TheBoraxKid glad we're back to talking about this topic.
It was starting to veer off.
I forgot that I visited a brewery in New Zealand that had a chocolate stout.
Much better than I expected it to be.
Shame you could ONLY taste it on the tour.
The only really regional US beer I am familiar with is Shiner Bock.
I don't understand Budweiser. Even less, Budweiser Light.
Is it drunk as a first beer, because it's not too hoppy?
We have a honey flavoured beer in Oz called Bees Neez. It tastes better than you'd expect.
We used to have a really hoppy varietal called Red Back, with a label on it that looked like the markings on our red back spider.
March 23, 2018 12:57 p.m.
xcn check out wyerbacker tarte nouveau It's got a really good flavor they also make a cherry beer that's good but that's harder to find
March 23, 2018 2:50 p.m.
I am a simple man and tend to stick to clear liquors for the most part, but if I feel the need to cop some 40's I usually stick with Bud Lights and Natties cause they're cheap as hell, and I've never been big on expensive drinks. They don't taste as good as most wines, but you can lay em back faster.

I home brewed once.
Turned out OK but was way too much trouble for me to continue.
Good luck in your contest.

For me, Duvel is the best beer I've ever had.
Also, most heavily hopped IPAs cellar well and mellow out as time passes.
