So I purchased Nightwish's new album Endless Forms Most Beautiful recently. By which I mean had it preordered and got it the day it came out.
I'm a pretty big Nightwish fan, have been for some time now. Once was fantastic, Dark Passion Play was great, and Imaginaerum completely blew me away.
EFMB did not. Maybe I just haven't listened to it thoroughly enough. Some early reviews I read described it as a "masterpiece," the "perfect debut album for Fleur," "the heaviest album in a decade."
Has anyone else listened to it? Thoughts? Do I just need to listen to it again?
I've listened to a few of nightwish's songs, buy I've never actually looked at all their songs. What are their best songs, in your opinion?

Ghost Love Score
Last Ride of the Day
Nemo
Those are my top 3 favorite, but I can list off another dozen that I love listening to at any time. Just nothing from the new album.

Hey vault, I'm in the opinion of giving the album another chance. I started off like you, not liking the album at first, especially since Elan broke the norm for what we've come to expect from first singles like "Storytime" did for Imaginaerum. However, I've come to find that some of the album's songs jump out to me more than they did after listening for them a few times. I feel like "The Greatest Show on Earth" and "Shudder Before the Beautiful" are some of the bands' greatest works, whereas some of the middle selections are very forgettable (Hell, I even put TGSOE above Ghost Love Score as my favorite "epic song" and SBTB above Storytime as best opening songs). I believe the best way to approach it would be as 11 separate songs, like Once instead that it happens to be a concept album in a way, as opposed to a full on concept album like "Imaginaerum."

I'll give it another shot. It's not like I dislike the album (still better than Within Temptation), but it just wasn't as heavy as I was expecting I guess.

Yea, I don't know why anyone would call this album the heaviest album in a decade. It's not the worst, but I'm not really a fan. I'm not a huge nightwish fan though, so that's probably got something to do with it lol

Only just heard "Shudder Before the Beautiful" since it's the first result I got on Youtube and it doesn't really sound that bad. Generally not a fan of female vocalists in metal, but it's not too bad.
In any event, you're better off listening to Blind Guardian or Rhapsody.
