Discussion and Theory Crafting Thread for RWBY, the animated series by Rooster Teeth.
This thread will be full of spoilers.
You've been warned.
Hah, that video is a parody of a scene from the show Rick & Morty.

Best season yet. Well done, well animated, great voice acting on all accounts (especially Miles in that last episode. That phone call).
It's going to be a long hiatus.
February 17, 2016 11:46 p.m.
I heard the hiatus won't be as long this year. July or August. It was long last year because of the passing of Monty Oum.
February 17, 2016 11:56 p.m.
Oh man this volume. So much to talk about. What are everyone's theories as to what will happen next?
February 18, 2016 12:05 a.m.
Ruby, Jaune, Nora, and Ren are going to Mistral, where Pyrrha is from. I have a feeling Miles and Kerry are sadistic enough to introduce us to her family.

Janine's gonna have some major PTSD. Does this inspire him to keep working to get better, or do his skills start to flag without Pyrrha to train him?

here are the three options that i can figure out where ruby's power came from 1. she has at least one of the maiden's powers 2. she obtained ozpin's powers when he died or he sent them to her or 3. the grey eyed warriors have a power of their own that was alluded to by crow. it could be any of these powers or a combination of these powers. the reason i put the ozpin thing in was they said the dragon was frozen, now that could mean frozen in ice or frozen in time so that's my two cents.

And yeah, JA14732, that phone call was really well voiced.
February 18, 2016 12:13 a.m.
logansullivan, Do you really think Ozpin died? I'm under the assumption he was taken by Salem.
February 18, 2016 12:19 a.m.
I think Ozpin fled. When Salem was talking at the end I felt like she was addressing Ozpin from a distance, whereas she would have been talking directly to him if he was captured. I think Ruby's maiden powers come from her mother, as all evidence seems to point there. I think Qrow and Raven are related in some way to Salem - red eyes and wotchlike powers of shapeshifting, not to mention Raven's portal.

I'm thinking that Salem resides in a kind of underworld so depending on what they are basing this part on and how the interpret it he could be dead. Also another theory based in many creation myths of religions all across the world and history Ozpin has a kind of spiritual brother who represents space since Ozpin represents time. and Salem is a primordial deity that birthed the two.

xzzane i actually think that if ruby has maiden powers they are winter not summer like her mother. if you look how she is visually represented like in her trailer and when she leaves at the end of this season most of the visuals tell us she might be the winter maiden and wiess and winter are just red herrings to throw us off.
February 18, 2016 12:37 a.m.
That was what I was thinking. Especially the way she froze the dragon Grimm. But without knowing more about the Maidens and the silver eyed warriors, we're grasping at straws.
February 18, 2016 12:44 a.m.
I haven't thought "too" much about it but I also do not think Ozpin died.
I find it weird that Blake just "took off", at least I think that's what was said.
February 18, 2016 12:59 a.m.
I've been binge-re-watching the first two seasons after finishing the third, such nostalgia...
A recurring motif throughout the show has been the moon being connected to Ruby and a sort of black moon/eclipse being linked to evil, Grimm, Salem, Cinder, even Raven with her black portal thingy. You can see the eclipsed sun/moon in the Volume 2 intro sequence. Ominous and probably extremely relevant, and when we find out what it all means it'll relate to a lot of other things in the show. Pretty sure that Monty said that the moon motif is related to Ruby and is relevant, including the different phases of the moon (when the shattered side can be seen vs when it can't).

kengiczar, Blake explained back in Volume One that running away is her nature, even her semblance is just another way of running away. It fits her personality well, especially considering she probably blames herself for what happened to Yang. Doesn't mean we have to be happy about it though.

I'm pretty sure Blake's going after Adam. She feels responsible for not stopping him earlier when his methods started getting too violent. And now that he cut off Yang's arm, she's gotta be looking for revenge.
February 18, 2016 9:53 a.m.
Yeah, IMO Blake's definitely not just running away, though it might be part of it. Easier to get revenge/do something than to stay back and deal with the aftermath.

Does anyone else think that Neo may join the good guys after Torchwick's demise? Also yang is super sad now and I am not ok with that. I just want our happy ray of sunshine back.
February 18, 2016 6:06 p.m.
I don't think there is any way in hell Neo will join the good guys. If Torchwick is really dead, Neo probably blames Ruby.
February 18, 2016 6:08 p.m.
GreenGhost says... #25
Yeah but at the same time I feel that there could be a conflict between Ruby and Neo over Torchwick where Ruby convinces Neo that it is really Cinder's Fault that Torchwick got killed. A little far fetched but I've heard crazier theroies on Reddit.
February 18, 2016 7:13 p.m.
Neo's kind of a wild card, I could actually see her joining the good guys - the most directly evil thing she's done was try to kill Yang in the train at the end of Vol. 2, where Raven stepped in to save her. Otherwise, she's just sorta tagged along with Torchwick

and she killed the crew of the airship she and torchwick took over

I mean, Neo's not just misguided... Remember the smile on her face when she tried to kill Yang, while Yang was unconscious? She's full-on insane evil. I don't see her switching sides.

GreenGhost says... #29
Fair enough I kinda forgot about that honestly. What do people think about Adam and Raven having similar swords though?
February 18, 2016 8:30 p.m.
Neo is literally my least favorite character on the show.
Mute, does fuckall and is STILL ungodly popular. Not to mention those fan theories for the Yang vs Mercury fight and so on were just grating, not to mention incorrect.
February 18, 2016 10:44 p.m.
Similar swords, similar masks, similar color schemes in general. Definitely no accident. They're connected somehow. I'm more interested in the rose insignia on Adam's back.
February 18, 2016 10:46 p.m.
The so-called "Wilt" is still something that interests me too. Ruby is described as having "Scatter," Adam has "Wilt." Why? Who knows.
February 18, 2016 10:47 p.m.
What do you mean, JA14732? All I know is that on Summer Rose's tombstone, the inscription reads "Summer Rose // Thus Kindly I Scatter"
Raven seems to be connected to Adam and Salem in different ways, unless her black hole/portal thingy is just coincidentally similar to Salem's theme (circular eye-like black stuff)
February 18, 2016 11:50 p.m.
logansullivan says... #34
I have to disagree with raven and Adam being connected color schemes aside their weapons are not that similar they show a radically different philosophy of the world Adam's is a quick and efficient tool of killing denoting his philosophy of strike first and make sure your enemy won't be able to strike back, while Raven's denotes her philosophy of adapting to survive. their blades have a similar shape just because they have a similar fighting technique and that is the most efficient kind of sword for someone with a slashing style to use.
February 19, 2016 1:19 a.m.
It was something Monty Oum said in an interview somewhere. I believe it's still on Adam's wiki page, at the bottom. Ruby and Adam aren't related, but their difference is "scatter and wilt."
I have no fucking clue what it means.
February 19, 2016 2:30 a.m.
There's going to be a lot of character development in the 4th volume. There HAS to be. Will Jaune overcome Pyrrha's death or will it haunt him forever? What awaits them in Haven? I think team SSSN is there, so we may get a chance to see them.
February 19, 2016 2:36 a.m.
Ruby scatters petals using her semblance, it definitely has something to do with her mom Summer Rose. Adam's semblance (absorbing and retaliating attacks) also does something with petals when he uses it, but obviously it's deadly, probably "wilts" is related to that.
Raven probably isn't connected to Adam but I feel like she's somehow connected to Salem
February 21, 2016 3:26 p.m.
I've noticed petals scattering even when Ruby isn't using her semblance, like in the opening scene in volume 3. Thoughts?
February 22, 2016 2:09 p.m.
What, nobody? Okay. Any ideas on the significance of the petals scattering regardless of semblance? We know it's not just aesthetics, nothing in this show is by accident.
February 24, 2016 12:16 a.m.
I don't think petals scatter regardless of semblance, I think it's only when either Ruby uses her semblance or when Adam uses his. Ruby's petals sorta stick around a bit whereas Adam's look like a bleeding/decaying effect and disappear pretty quickly, at least as far as I remember.
Intro scenes are different obviously
