Star Trek: TOS or TNG?

My first encounter with the Star Trek world was from the movies with Captain Kirk. I watched The Next Generation before I saw The Original Series though and I prefer TNG over TOS.

Is anyone here a Trekkie - how did this become so and any thoughts related to anything Star Trek (ahem.. J.J. Abrams.. ahem..)?

"To boldly go where no man has gone before" vs "to boldly go where no one has gone before." Enough said. Also, Picard is the perfect human. My wife and I realized recently that, quite incidentally and subconsciously, the character Captain Picard was possibly the defining influence on my morality and the measure by which I made decisions.

DS9 was my favorite.

Oh wait yeah TNG vs TOS. TOS all the way, TNG is TOS just woth different characters, better writing and more engaging stories but nothing can beat how classic TOS was so TOS.

TNG had more interesting plots. Might not have been as groundbreaking, but TNG certainly was better

The Next Gen, Deep Space9, The Enterprise, The Original Series. I'm missing one, can't remember it for the life of me, I think it had a Female Captain??

Data suggests that TNG is better.

(See what I did there?)

TOS was amazing and ahead of it's time, however TNG is how I discovered 'Trek to begin with. Riker gets all the ladies. And Data is fully functional. Make it so, Number One! But what if he said, Number Two...? Lol

Hahah, I love that.

"I am fully functional."

I really liked DS9 too, but it took TNG to fully appreciate DS9, so even though DS9 seemed so original for a cannon, it wouldn't have been so without TNG.

Colm Meaney (Chief O'Brien)

Michael Dorn (Worf)

These guys got their introduction into star trek during TNG, and they were great, good enough to warrant including in the cannon.

Voyager got Tom Paris from the story arc about wesley crusher in star fleet academy in TNG, although it was literally a single episode and not a recurring role whatsoever, it did tie the two series together seemlessly.

I'll repeat my initial post.

TNG all day.

[in b4- Now allow me to layeth the smacketh down, Leonard Nimoy played spock in TOS, TNG and occasional appearances in other cannons/movies. By default, that makes TOS the winner every time]

Still pickin TNG all day.

as far as replay value, rewatching TOS is actually really pedantic compared to the updated quality BY COMPARISON to TNG and the other cannons, in a vacuum.

The original series really was the blueprint that most updated forms of star trek follow, but those original blueprint episodes can get fairly long and drawn out when spinning their tales, and the updated versions not only tip their hat to their predecessors with updated versions of the original storylines, but they actually expand on and originate new material that far exceeds that of the original blueprints, so to speak.

In other words, you can say, TOS every time, but your not actually putting in the hours to rewatch TOS. Whereas, I am currently rewatching TNG as I type this.
