The Official Gaming Thread I: TappedOut's First Line of Defence

The Blind Eternities forum

(This has been shamelessly borrowed from another forum - many thanks to those guys that came up with this formula, without them this structure wouldn't be possible).

This is the first official gaming thread. I don't know what makes it official..... but I decided I'd try and make ONE thread for everyone's gaming needs. If anyone sees someone posting another thread about games or gaming they could perhaps be pointed to here instead. Console gaming, PC gaming, online gaming. Is it considered video game related? It goes here.

Feel free to ask any gaming related question, there will be many here willing to help you out.

In order to find the thread in the future click on the magnfying glass in the top right (the search icon) and type 'the gaming thread' with any luck (fingers crossed) this should come up.......(this is a bit of an experiment actually)

The Rules of the Gaming Thread, version 1:

1- Stay on topic! This is not the place to discuss TV shows, guitars, homework, kittens or the mother of your neighbour. It's called the Gaming Thread for a reason.

2- No unmarked spoilers! If you're going to post spoilers for a game, please mark them properly and make them discrete.

3- No spam. Spam and disruptive posts will be reported to relevant admins.

4- Please refrain from posts consisting of only "Hello everyone" or "Hi people!" or "goodbye people!". If you want to announce your arrival or leaving, at least make it gaming-related.

5- Avoid posting a lot of pictures. It will help to keep things speedy. Try linking pictures by URL, instead of embedding them into the thread.

6- Respect the opinion of everyone and no flaming!

7- It is forbidden to post any links to copyrighted material, such as torrents, game ROM's or CD keys.

8- If your question is not answered, try again later! If no one can answer it at the moment, chances are there will be someone who is able to help you at another time! Are you stuck on a game and can't progress? Try GameFAQ's, they have FAQ's for most about every game ever made. If you are having hardware issues, Google is always your best bet. Someone else has probably had the same problem as you!

Gaming FAQ

What console should I get?!?!

The best thing you can do is to take a look at existing and upcoming EXCLUSIVE titles for both systems, and see which ones youd like to play more. At the end of the day, youre buying the console for your own enjoyment, and its a lot of money to spend, so spend it on what you want, not what might be perceived as cool!

If you are looking at getting a new console, but dont really know what to expect from each of them, just post in the thread for more in depth thoughts and opinions.

Is Game X Better Than Game Y?

Yes. And No. Depends on who you ask. Every game has its fans and its detractors, so theres no right answer (although if a lot of people are saying Game Y sucks, then the chances are Game X would be a better choice!). Gaming is subjective! One man's trash is another man's treasure!

Do I Need a HDTV To Play My New Console?

No, you certainly dont NEED a HDTV to enjoy your gaming console; they are both compatible with regular TVs. However, if you want to get the most out of the graphical capabilities of your console, you may want to consider investing in a monster telly! It really makes it look a whole lot better! You can also plug your console to a computer screen, if you have one that supports HD resolution, but you need the right cables and the right inputs on your graphics card for it.

Is This The Right Place To Talk About This?

If it has any relevance AT ALL to gaming, gaming platforms, games, gaming hardware, accessories etc, then this is the place to discuss it!

So come on in, youll find us a friendly bunch, eager to help and discuss all aspects of gaming! One word of warning though, if you get sucked in, you may find it hard to escape!

The problem I have with rpgs now ChiefBell, is that the gameplay is extremely repetitive and boring. I am mainly referring to the turn based rpgs, particularly the grid unit style like Fire Emblem and Disgaea. While the originals (North American Fire Emblem original that is) have a wonderful story and I would play them again if I wanted to just for that nostalgic value, many others I just can't get into.

Now with turn based games that aren't unit on grid, the lack of speed via menu interaction really gets at me. The best game that did this was Final Fantasy X, you could zip through the menu and never feel like you are playing a turn based game, it is incredibly fast paced and really adds to the feel of the game in that you are racing to get to the final Aeon to beat Sin.

Now with rpgs that are combo button mashers, I don't mind those too much. Like the Tales of series, learning the right sets of moves to create the largest combo to potentially kill any boss without getting hit, is awesome. Best game for this, was Tales of Symphonia and the DS one I can't remember (it had where all the main characters were reincarnations of really powerful creatures of the past). I can be certain to say, that tempest is my favourite move. And I think I reached 9999 uses on Symphonia with it like a few hundred times. I can't tell since that is the amount it maxes on :D

Another thing I'm really into is multiplayer games. My main reason is a quite personal one. Whenever I play a video game, if it isn't multiplayer, I feel like I've wasted my time when I could have done something worth while. And it's because I generally can't share that experience. I can't share how truly awesome a game felt with someone else, or how I loved a certain moment in gaming, or how something happened or I did something remarkable that awed me into silence, as words are mere words. So playing Co-op (like I did with Gears of War and Army of Two, my two favourite non-online-multiplayer shooters) is really a fun aspect, no matter what the game is. Hell even having someone watch me play is perfectly fine, but hard thing to do on a lappy at uni. So the social aspect of gaming, even though you may not be conversing directly with other players like with TF2, is a very important thing to me.

Which is why I spend most of my time with MtG, it is an experience I can share with someone else. That, and I'm a sucker for spending far too much time in public chat rooms and on public forums. I'm very social oriented~♥

I think instead of saying 'rpgs' you should say 'some rpgs'. There are hundreds of them. Some are great, some are shite.
