What would you name a Magic shoppe?

To be specific; what amazing (or so bad that it's hilarious) magic related pun would you name a store / business?

To the winner goes a framed portrait above the cash identifying you as employee of the year - for life.

Any reference to 'tapping that' will be met with groans and eye rolling.

well, "the breeding pool" would give people the wrong idea, though "stomping grounds" could work.

The shoppe stands alone referencing The Cheese Stands Alone.

we're headed in the right direction. Best I could was Temple of Scrylance... but thats less funny, and more...Also, it sounds like it's just a boring place.

City of Brass because it is a utopia for Magic players, but it will cost them to play FNM, buy cards, etc.

more contenders:

"Abrupt Parfait - an MTG cafe and Bar"

"Bant Touch This"

"owner's name Big Black Deck" (better if the store had an actual deck)

"the West-Boros Baptist Church".. probably not, but HA!

"Gruul store-y, bro"

Mana Confluence could work, though not sure if naming a store after a card would be infringing on copywrites or not. When I was younger I thought 'Worlds Collide' great name... then I found out it was taken.

@brcap Food and MTG never mix well... Unless you have ironclad locking lid drink containers and a large supply of wet naps...

I like that one!

I have an EDH playgroup that plays in a bar, or pizza place - it is way better than our LGS... which is fine n all.. but you know, not licensed to serve.

My city has a few gaming cafes, which have huge selection of broad games that the staff teach you to play - they're super popular. You see the odd MTG player their. Those that are worried just order/eat between games; and the drink holders are under the table to prevent spillage.

Boseiju Gaming Shelter - Boseiju, Who Shelters All

Infinite Gyre Games - Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre. A 'gyre' is a spiral or vortex. Could also reference infinite loops.

Aether Gaming

Planeswalkers' Portal

"Something" Hive - slivers reference. Needs to be cooler than 'the hive'.

Nah, I've always wanted to make an MTG store/bar. Drunk magic is fun. It's also helpful in selling cards. XD

"Wizards of the Coasters"

Behind wizards have a tilted magic card and behind coasters have a drink coaster, and the artwork or alter of Hot Soup centered underneath.

Really tired, but thought of some. They are prob pretty dumb, but here you go.

In Response Libations - If you do the bar thing. IRL games

Slingers

Decked to the 9s

Depending on location High Tide Gaming could be a good name.

General location, and your favorite cards could help me think of more if you somehow liked this train of thought I had.

The Gilded Lotus could be a pub & MtG shop.

The Riptide Laboratory

Gamers' Hive

A name like Tolarian Academy might make customers feel cool.

Thanks for more options, some of those are great. Special internet points to Didgeridooda.

In general, i'm trying to stay away from cards/references that are hard for the non-mtg familiar to pronounce. eg. have you heard non-players try n' pronounce Tarmogoyf?! Same goes for Urza, which is a shame, cuz I like Urza's ____. Or similarly, causes the non-initiated to say "WTF is an Urza?!"

I'm also trying to stay away from anything overly nerdy sounding, maybe that's a mistake.. embrace the nerdom n all. But there have many times something like "I cast Gideon, Champion of Justice" has come out of my mouth, and I immediately realize how dorky that sounds (he's in my cube... for... reasons). Basically, I want a name that someone would not be looked inquisitively at for telling a non-mtg friend that "I'm headed to _insert name____ for the afternoon".

Kinda kills traditional DND sounding words, like guild, destiny, wizards etc. Hell, my local LGS is called "Wizard's tower", and I refer to it as "my local LGS" for that very reason.. which is poor branding.

Super inside references are fine, as long as they sound "normal" to the uninitiated. eg. following the old pub tradition of "The + Adjective + Animal" (see: any British pub ever for ref.), something like "The Old Storm Crow" could work - but i'm just partial to puns.

Well, if you sell comics and books, something involving books would be nice, that way when the person who talks about the store says the name, they feel like others will think of them as smarter (weird as it sounds, I feel like that makes sense).

For example, 2 nearby stores for me are: "Harrison's Comics and Collectables" and "Pandemonium Books and Games. When I reference the latter, it just feels less embarrassing for me personally.

An idea could be something like "(You're Name)'s Books and Games", or something like that. Emphasizing books or something smart really helps. But that's just me and my opinion. Hope I helped! : )

So, if I understood you right, you want a name that only MtG Players will recognize as MtG-related... Some kind of secret code in the name... I'd just go full out nerd pride, but to each their own. Now, for the names:

If you serve drinks and snacks only:

  • Rolling Sap (we keep your sap rolling)
  • The Poison Counter (because you're handing "poison" over the counter)
  • GG's Bar (good games bar)
  • Drinking Games (self-explanatory)
  • Serum Visions (serum? get it? SERUM? Yeah, I know. Horrible.)
  • The Untapped Barrel (yeah i know, no tapping. That's why it's UNtapped. ;P)

If you serve (fast) food:

  • Woo! Burger! You know, from WUBRG. Also serving Drinks/Milkshakes/slushies/etc in all five colors.
  • Combo Meals (With an MtG-themed combo special)

My personal favorite is "The Poison Counter". It's ambiguous enough to sound inconspicuous while being easy to recognize for any MtG player.
