I'm a big fan of easy workouts - like, easy to do yourself, not requiring a gym/equipment, etc. So I mostly end up with crunches, push ups, pull ups, and running.

Vanilla shakes are objectively the best.

Go hard or go home.

One time I leg pressed 20 plates.

Am I doing the thing correctly?

One time I got home from triceps and chest day and threw up 9 times in an hour. Did I go hard or what?

bigguy99: My double chocolate begs to differ. The lemon juice combination is an exception.

I just tried a chocolate powder, peanut butter, and vanilla almond milk shake. Inconceivably superior to the vanilla powder and tap water shakes I made in ignorance and shame.

May 13, 2015 7:37 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #10

How'd you mix the peanut butter in there? Blender or just mush it in there with a spoon? I've always wanted to try it.

Eating Bison > Protien Shakes unless you like consuming metal?

May 13, 2015 7:40 p.m.

Just a spoon's worth of natural crunchy PB with the rest of the stuff in a shaker bottle. You could use a blender instead. I don't recommend the spoon; you'll be there for a while, especially if you add it before mixing the powder and liquid.

Low quality carrageenan found in crap like Almond Breeze is literally like dragging a rake across your stomach. It ulcerates your insides.

May 13, 2015 7:49 p.m.

Huh. Maybe I'll switch back to whole then. Almond happened to be what I had on hand. Doesn't go bad as fast, although I really should be drinking more anyway.

Whole milk is very high in saturated fat. (Like 24-29% daily value per 8oz) It's a trade though, the less fat it has the more sugar. 2% is about 16% saturated fat with 10-12 grams sugar per 8oz. (Sorry don't know whole milk sugar content off hand)

Edit: Google says it's 12 grams. Guess your better off not drinking whole milk at all. (It tastes the best though!)

My accomplishment within the past 9 months: I went from 96kg (~211 pounds) to 77kg (170 pounds).

All I did was counting calories, accomplishing a daily deficit of approximately (but never less than) 25% of my TDEE. My body got used to the deficit very quickly, and I found out that 20-25% less does not leave you hungry (a higher deficit will).

I allowed myself about one cheat-day per month.

NO SPORTS. I feel a lot better today than I did 9 months ago.

My goal was to lose fat - and that's exactly what happened :D

And no, I did not give birth after the nine months xD

I just recently started working out regularly. One day i realized that I was almost 250 pounds, I'm almost 6 feet 7 inches so it's not a terrible weight to be at. I wasn't comfortable with it though so I decided to lose weight. I started hard, doing insanity and following their diet for two weeks. By the end of that two weeks I lost ten pounds and felt like I had a lot more energy. I scaled back on the diet and the workouts, and ended up losing another 10 pounds. I've been able to keep my weight at a constant 220 for about 2 months now. I work out 3-4 times a week, and just try to be aware of what I'm eating, and it seems to be working.

For anybody that wants to challenge themselves and lose weight I really recommend Insanity. It is crazy hard, but worth it. Do their diet plan if you want to see awesome results!

For anybody wanting start eating better I recommend using myfitness pal, it is beyond helpful.

@ Epochalyptik I've just been lurking haha, I'm still around.

I've actually just hit my first milestone of many, going up from 185 to a solid 200 and I am more than pleased with my progress so far.

I'm setting new PR's too, I've been following a training blog for a while and the trainer has been doing earlier workouts while fasting. I honestly recommend it to anyone who's serious about transforming themselves.

here's a great article about the benefits of it.

Also, I have no problems with helping people target muscle groups and switching up their routine so just tag me wherever and I'll help the best I can.

Also, The best protein powder i've been able to find right now is the Gold Standard line. The stuff tastes amazing (I buy malt chocolate, shit tastes like m'n'm's. For real) and it's a whey isolate (For the immediate ingestion of protein) and egg and milk protein's (For the sustained realease). It also has Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAA) which helps the muscles more quickly absorb the proteins

Since we have this thread: How the f*** do I gain weight? I'm very underweight (56 kg, 186 cm), and have been that for a long time... I eat normally, cycle 5 km aday, run 3 times a week, and swim 1 hour a week. What to do? (oh, btw, I'm 16 and I'm growing a lot right now)

May 14, 2015 3:02 a.m.

NoPantsParade says... #43

Eat and lift. But eat clean foods and not a bunch of junk. Since you're getting so much exercise from what you do, you need to eat more. I think. Try lifting too.

May 14, 2015 5:19 a.m.

@Khanye: I'm building a routine. This past month was experimentation to figure out what my thresholds are and how I should be approaching things.

I think I'm going to continue following NoPantsParade's chest+arm and bicep+shoulder+back approach because I can fit more sessions in per week on that schedule.

@NorthernRaven: If you want to bulk, you need to be consuming at caloric surplus. If you eat at or below your TDEE, then you're going to stagnate or lose weight.

Some people who have been really desperate to gain or who want a cheap bulk do GOMAD (gallon of milk a day), but I hear it's pretty miserable. This guy covers it pretty well.

The basic idea, though, is that you need to be eating more. Add one meal to your day, stay there for a week or two, and add another. Make sure you're consuming at least one gram of protein for each pound of bodyweight.

@Gale7: I just pour soap and water into mine, shake it for a while, and then get whatever was left with a sponge. I've never had problems with anything sticking. What have you been mixing?

Hi, I'm a biologist, and not really into this kind of stuff (I do not exercise or do diets), but I've studied a lot about it.

What I want to point out is, please, ask a professional before attempting a diet or an exercise routine, you would be surprised how many "healthy" diets have terrible side effects, and how many people end up with injuries (some long lasting) because they don't know how to exercise properly.

May 14, 2015 6:55 a.m.

Caligula says... #46

@bigguy99 I usually try to buy a protein mix that already has egg protein and Milk protein, Those are slow acting proteins that you muscles will absorb slowly as they rebuild. Whey protein isolates are fast acting and have no fat and no lactose and it actually has BCAA's in it to help the muscle build.

@NorthernRaven If you want to be putting on size then you need to be eating, and eating good proteins, Chicken, Steak, Pork, Tuna ETC.

If you're on a work out routine or play sports and you want to pack on muscle you need to be eating roughly 1 gram of protein per 1 lb. of body weight like epoch says.

@ Epochalyptik Dude, Try throwing overhead presses into your routine. I have begun to love them, Along with Skullcrushers.

May 14, 2015 8:59 a.m.

Caligula says... #47

Oh also, Epoch, If you do Chest + Back on the same day's you'll notice a more even growth in thickness when you're working out.

@Khanye I do Mon to Friday. (I might take a day off in between, depending on the workout and trying new things)

But usually it's

Mon: Chest + Back

Tues: Arms + Shoulders

Wed: Legs

Thurs: Chest + Back

Fri: Arms + Shoulders

So no matter what I'm working out 2 muscle groups twice in one week. I'll alternate Leg day every second week to get a 2x leg day in once every 2nd week.

If you're looking for a breakdown in actual workouts I would be happy to share.

May 14, 2015 9:04 a.m. Edited.

I did some overhead dumbbell presses yesterday, but that was really my first time trying them. It's hard to get weight on single-arms.

Do you experience any issues with chest and arms on adjacent days, or does putting chest first alleviate the danger of overworking arms?

I noticed that when I was prioritizing arm days, I would have somewhat lower effectiveness on my benches, which were a day later, because the muscles were still tense.

Also, I'm all for breakdowns.

May 14, 2015 9:28 a.m. Edited.

Caligula says... #49

When your doing overhead presses (I find anyways) I usually use the squat rack bar and slowly add weights, making sure im lifting with both arms straight up from the chest and making sure your ears finish forward from your arms extended.

The reason you want to do your chest exercises first is because alot of the chest work outs (mainly bench) require some secondary movements from your triceps, it's also the reason I do back after chest. Because they are opposing muscle groups you can do an effective and efficient back workout without too much strain on the chest.

But prioritizing chest before your arm day will definitely help your benches.

I'll give a breakdown of my usual weekly routine here once I finish up at work =)

APPLE01DOJ says... #50

My work out...

113 push-ups

3 sets of hola hoop twists

1 set of uppercuts

1 set of jabs

113 straights

1 set of twist punches.

3 sets of jumping jacks

3 sets of leg lifts (stomach)

1 set of sit-ups

3 sets of perfect push-ups

1 sets of curls

1 set reverse curls

13 squats

13 burpees with multiple pumps during the later numbers.

Then I jog to my mailbox.

My routine is to help get more cut than it is to bulk up and gain muscle. My collar is separated (waiting all eternity for obamacare surgery) so weight intense work outs are not ideal.
