Heya! I've been interested in Event Decks lately, reading about them and thinking how the series of products could progress on getting competitive results from budget decks with only 7 rares.
So I challenge thou to design your own event deck! Here are the rules!
1) The decks must be standard legal, with an exactly 60-card mainboard and a 15-card sideboard. Post-Zendikar standard is preferable, but considering the limited card pool I am cool with pre-rotation stuff.
2) Only 7 rares permitted throughout the mainboard and the sideboard!
3) Unique ideas and setups not already used by Wizards in their previous products welcome!
4) OPTIONAL: Nominate a creature card in the deck to be on the front cover of your fictional Event Deck box!
Here is an example decklist: deck:liquimetal-thief
For funsies I will test the decks against each other and also against real Event Decks like Into The Breach and Rot From Within. I'd love to see what ideas come up!
Cheers! :D

here's my entry: the holy affliction (event deck version).
Priests of Norn would be the cover card.

i believe u need a bit more rules. some of the peoples deck are way to rare powerful for an event deck. it would make since to make it think like an event deck. example if the card cost 7 or more only 1 can be in the deck if it is a rare. 3-6.99 is 2 and under 3 can have 4. rare lands only 1 of them is allowed and you can only have 1 rare lands not multiple kinds. it would make it a bit harder but more of an event deck.

I looked through each deck and I've actually played each deck too. I would tend to agree with the dual land rule. I think most people though in looking at the decks have the costs about right so far. I didn't see a lot of high priced cards in looking through them. I think one thing to remember is that some of the actual event decks are actually quality decks. Vampire onslaught for example has a playset of dismember a $6 uncommon. i think the majority of the high priced cards in the decks are actually the lands.
I know that my deck may seem a little over the top with the 3 stromkirk nobles, but as of now they are only 2.50 a piece for presale. I have a feeling they'll see goblin guide prices soon after the release.

Sorry guys, I have made a STUPID error in miscouting the number of rares in each Event Deck. I was under the impression that the number was 7 without bothering to check for myself.
The actual number is 5; e.g. Into The Breach has 2 Goblin Guides, 1 Spikeshot Elder, 1 Leyline Of Punishment and 1 Contested War Zone. Because I screwed up and not you I will not ask anyone to change any decklists they have submitted.
Sorry for being a bit of a doofus. Next time I will be more thorough with my research and rules.

As for the rules concerns voiced by DARK_r3ck0n1ng, I do agree with the lands rule. In fact, the Event Decks themselves are limited in terms of rare nonbasic lands; Infect And Defile mostly uses Jwar Isle Refuges to mana fix rather than expensive Drowned Catacombs and the like.
Again, I will not ask you to change the list if it relies on rare nonbasic lands because I screwed up in this department. The idea of the challenge is just to generate ideas, I guess.

Huh. It turns out that 7 rares. IS right. Originally it was five, but by the time of Illusionary Might it was 7
As thus, disregard comment 8. Genuine question: How on earth do I delete my own comments in the comments section here?

Yea it looks like they recently changed it up. Although I must say that after this challenge, I'm almost tempted to go out and pick up a vampire onslaught deck. 2x bloodghast 4x dismember, 2x blade of the bloodchief along with go for the throats!

Its a pretty awesome deck (I love aggro-combo!), and despite its short shelf life the 4 Dismember s, 2 Go for the Throat s and the single Mimic Vat are wicked cards that will remain standard legal. :D

Oh Crikey, that's a rule I forgot: No Mythics are permitted in these decks; just the 7 rares! Sorry about my forgetfulness.
