TitansFTW's Card Spoofing Challenge
Challenges and Articles forum

I, TitansFTW, cordially invite you to take part in my MTG Card Spoofing Competition. You may each enter one spoof and there will be prizes for the top 3 so long as 6 or more people enter, so remember to advertise and tell all of your friends. If 12 or more people enter, I will give prizes to the top 5 entries. The prizes are as follows:
1st: Chosen player chooses up to 5 different decks. I will view, constructively criticise and +1 those decks.
2nd: Chosen player chooses up to 3 different decks. I will view, constructively criticise and +1 those decks.
3rd: Chosen player chooses 1 deck. I will view, constructively criticise and +1 that deck.
Decks you choose don't necessarily need to be your own. You can do your mate a favour if you want to. The spoof must be of a currently existing card.
The deadline for entries is 23:59 GMT on Sunday 2nd June.
In order to give you a bit of inspiration, I've come up with a couple of spoofs myself:
">
">
Previous entrants from my last attempt are: Aerokid, Xindlepete, acbooster, KrosanTusker and KingSorin. They may enter the same spoof as last time or a new one.
Good luck to all who enter, and happy spoofing.

@JMANNO33O: Aw... :( Sad Robot is sad! Though that last ability is pretty much spot on. :D Very Clever!
@TitansFTW: Question, are you deciding the winner just based on the arbitrary "What I like most", or are you having participants vote? Just curious.

Well done guys, we now have 13 entrants (if my counting hasn't failed me), meaning that there will be prizes for the top 5 entrants. The next target is 20 entrants.
@Xindlepete: Because we have 13 entrants, we are giving out 5 prizes (at the moment, there are still a few days left). What I think I'll do is choose the top 5 using the 'arbitrary "What I like most"' method, then let you and the rest of the TappedOut community vote for the order in the top 5.

Cool. :) Sounds fair enough to me. This is pretty cool. Though I think next time, you should limit the spoofs to cards from specific release sets. That way you'll have more contests that you could host. Just a thought. :)

The problem with that is that it limits the amount of spoofs available. You don't often get more than 1 or 2 famous spoof-worthy cards in a set. For example, if you look back at this competition, most of the spoofs are all from different sets. Even my 2 example spoofs are from really unusual sets; Tinker is originally from Urza's Saga and Akroma is originally from Legions, but they are both decent spoofs.

It doesn't really limit it by that much though. There are plenty of spoof-worthy cards in any set. Some of them, like Thoughtseize or Falkenrath Aristocrat , are spoof-worthy because of how commonly played they are in a competetive environment. Others are spoof-worthy because of how ridiculous the abilities are, regardless how competetive the environment; such as my Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker spoof or your Akroma, Angel of Wrath spoof. There are plenty of different reasons a card may be "spoof-worthy", but limiting the spoofing contest to a print set, or even block, helps narrow the focus enough that it will making judging spoofs easier. And with most print sets having 150 - 200 cards printed, that's still a BOATLOAD of cards to choose from. And it will help prevent future competitions from just having people spam-submit their old spoofs if they didn't win before.

The problem is, however, that most spoofs are funny because of how famous/notorious a card is. Take Gatecrash, for example. Everyone knows what Boros Reckoner does, but a spoof of Wojek Halberdiers wouldn't be that funny since it's not famous for anything.

What I could do is limit the competition to card types, such as Planeswalkers or Creatures. Or, I could be even more specific and say Angels, Demons or Dragons, for example. That would be easier to work around.

Xindlepete says... #9
Sure. The entire point of what I was trying to say was that by creating some kind of limitation on what cards get spoofed would make it easier for us that want to compete. By having a clear goal instead of just "Pick a card, any card" from the entirety of MTG, you allow us the possibility of a better spoof. Also, I'm sure it would be easier to judge the winners if everyone was competing on the same level. :) However you want to divvy it up is fine by me, I was just using print sets/blocks as an example.

Mana Ramp Elf
Creature - Dork
T: Untap target Temple Gardens. Use this ability only to cast Thragtusk a turn earlier than your opponent can do anything about it, or to cast Restoration Angel in response to your opponent breathing.

Endgame Charm
Instant
Choose one: Kill target opponent struggling to recoup from your Reckoner rush; or target Boros Reckoner is indestructible so you can do that infinite lifegain thing now; or target unblocked creature wins you the game.

Force of Will 0
Instant
As an additional cost to cast Force of Will, either pay 1 life and exile a card from your hand, or pay 3UU and hang your head in shame because you're doing it horribly wrong.
Target player gives up Legacy for Modern.
A good card, though sometimes all the Storm Crow jokes make me wonder if it was worth it.

"Down-side? What down-side?"
Instant.
Here, take this populatable 5/5 trampler. You're welcome.
Who needs a down-side when you got SWAG?

@TheLameSauce: Do you want to enter the elf or the charm?
@doinitwrong: You like the old school version?

Hey TitansFTW, two questions for you: 1) when is the deadline for this contest, I'm anxious to start voting for the top 5! And 2) the "Titans" bit of TitansFTW, are you referring to a sports team, like the Tennesse Titans, or is it a reference to the M11 - M12 "Titans", like Frost Titan , Primeval Titan , Sun Titan , Grave Titan , and Inferno Titan ? Just curious about that one.

megawurmple says... #21
1) The deadline is at 22:00 GMT on Sunday 2nd June. So, tomorrow evening. Voting will open almost immediately after.
2) It refers to the cycle of Titans from M11 and M12. The Titans are my favourite cycle of cards ever. I have 8 of them in my deck Run, Fat Boy, Run! and they win me so many games.

trying to put my entry in, how do I put the picture on here if it is saved under my Documents? cant figure it out...

Xindlepete says... #25
@Human_Rogue_21: You need to first upload the picture to a file-share website, like imgur or Photobucket. Personally I use Photobucket. Free sign-up and ridiculously easy to use. :)
Once you are signed up, upload the picture you want to that site. Then go to that picture's individual page, where it should have all the link types and info listed on the right-hand side. You'll need to find the HTML code link. Click on the little "bubble" where the link text is displayed, and it will copy the full link to your clipboard. Then come back over here to TappedOut, and in the comment section of this thread right click, then paste. It will look like 5-6 lines of programming text, but DON'T FIDDLE WITH ANYTHING. Just click "preview your comment" and it should show up as the image of your card. :)
If you have too many troubles with it, you can always ask for clarification or instructions from somebody else. Either way, welcome to the mock-up family! :D

Okay, we now have 12 hours left until the deadline and 19 entrants. We need just 1 more to reach 20 and get more prizes. So tell your mates to have a go.
Just a reminder, acbooster and KrosanTusker have still not entered.

The challenge ends in about 30 minutes, and we need 1 more entrant to get bonus prizes. Come on guys, you can entice 1 more person!

I just realized I made a mistake with the text. It should read: "Also inform them that this effect will happen at the end of your turn when you forget to do it on the beginning of your End Step".
Rushing to get it finished and made some typo's... Hope it is still a contender...

And with that, entries are closed. Don't worry, Human_Rogue_21, I will still consider your entry. Voting will open as soon as I choose my top 8.
