To Make a deck from memories alone

Challenges and Articles forum

Posted on Sept. 18, 2015, 6:10 p.m. by Kyleeee

The challenge is to grab a piece of paper, and write down every card you know that could be in a deck. You make a deck out of it then, and we see how it turned out.

Are you asking us to recall every magic card we can think of and make a deck out of that? Would it be a singleton format, or would we get to choose the number of cards per deck?

Please make your ideas easier to understand, they are usually very confusing and overly vague.

I apologize. I want you to make a deck from your memories alone. To do it, you leave the computer, cards, and write down every card you know. You then make a deck from it. As with all of my descriptions, it is casual and constructed, no format. I never knew that formats were generally part of the challenges.

I've done that several times, with the added restriction of adding the card if I added/encountered the card during a designated amount of times (usually, it's 4 years for me). It's a neat challenge, but it can lead to very goodstuffy decks, and this challenge would be no exception to that.

I want to see it!

I'm actually going to do it again. This time, focusing on Grixis colors (it's usually Sultai, so it's a new challenge).

I'll build it later tonight. It's quite easy for me.

well the problem i see with this challenge is that i can clearly remember all of the cards in one my already built decks. are there any more limitations on this?

September 18, 2015 7:50 p.m.

Kyleeee says... #8

You have remembered a few other decks. I want you to do it without using the cards you purposely memorized.

I will make sure to make my future descriptions fuller. :)

With all the decks I play with or against often I can name every card in them and the amount of each. Sub a few out for power nine cards and done

I have a pretty vast memory of blue EDH staples and understand how most generals are built. As a result, I can craft a rudimentary deck for any blue general with ease.

I'm sure most people have an area they're knowledgeable with. I don't really see the point of this exercise.

I do too. I really want to see what you have! :D

Thank you Phaetian! It was awesome!

Phaetion says... #16

Anytime. :) It's not my best work, mostly because I'm building a Grixis-themed Commander Box and I further challenged myself by using only cards from there. Others I could've ran are the Vivids, for example.

I honestly thought this challenge would be harder. I see that I have a bad memory. You listed so many cards! And they all work together!

In truth, as I built the deck, it became the shell of a Sedris deck. A few fixes, and it can easily be done.

Awesome! I want for more from others and you.

I'll do it again when I next approach it. I don't know when that will be. :/

My memory tiny leaders. Crazy thing is I think I may actually build this. I've been meaning to build a yasova tiny leaders deck anyway. It turned out better than I expected.

It's funny that this post was revived, because I did revisit the challenge again (ok, I cheated a little this time), but this is the for real version of the one I submitted here, this time featuring Garza Zol, Plague Queen at the helm.

It is all good. I like when people submit new content.

Seems that with my posts, this forum has entered a state of silence. How should we revive this?

This struck me as really interesting, and I decided to challenge myself by writing down a list for a deck that I haven't played in a long time. I know I didn't get it 100% correct, and I'm interested in seeing how close I was. I'll check back sometime later with those results.
