Grixis Bolas deck feedback requested

Commander Deck Help forum

Hey all,

This is a commander deck I've been brewing for about a month and would like some feedback/help on. I've tried deckcycling for help but the deck has about 480 views now and no comments. :/

Anyway, this was originally designed to abuse Bolas' discard ability off of any damage, but as I experimented with the deck more it steadily became more of a discard engine/pillow fort deck in order to draw lots of cards, then using Bolas as the finisher. Overall I like the deck a lot, but would like advice on synergies or options I might be missing. It's also supposed to be a control deck, but I feel like the low instants and sorceries is a problem. Any noncreature spells that do what any of the creatures in the deck do would be great suggestions.

I was away from magic for about four years, so I'm sure a pair of more experienced eyes can help. My meta isn't particularly spikey, and I'm not a spike myself (More timmy/vorthos-y). I want the deck to be effective and powerful to a degree, but fun is my main concern. I'm also pretty low on money and don't have access to fetches, just fyi.

It should be noted that all the cards in the maybeboard are cards I like and if anyone thinks any of them fit over anot her option, let me know. The sideboard is mostly full of cards that were in the deck at one point but got moved during testing. I also own a Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur that isn't in use currently, so if someone thinks it would work in place of something here let me know.

Thank you in advance for looking.

That's pretty awesome actually. Fortunately I already had Cunning Lethemancer and Sire Of Insanity in the deck, but I didn't even know about Quest for the Nihil Stone, Hollow Specter or Pain Magnification. I knew about Megrim but Megrim + Sire Of Insanity didn't click in my head until I saw that. that's definitely going in. Thanks a lot!

Oops, sorry, overlooked them. But yeah, basically Bolas requires a nasty sort of deck. People will see him coming from miles away (he is your general after all) and he has a hefty drawback (the upkeep cost). Still he is good general in particular for this type of deck, but is is really important that the others cards have synergy with him, as well as stand on their own.

Also do not forget Painful Quandary
