Help with Ziatora

Commander Deck Help forum

It was only yesterday I was wrapping up my Belbe deck, at least it feels like so. :p Going to be playtesting it in person until it reaches a consistency I like but it’s been performing well!

I plan on building a fling/power-matters deck with Ziatora, the Incinerator at helm, because she is a great flinging machine in the command zone!

Through some goldfish games, I noticed the deck can be slow, so I added more ramp. I’m debating swapping the signets for mana dorks so I can at least save them for three treasures when they’re not useless, but I do like the resilience of land-based ramp.

I would greatly appreciate some general help and suggestions to make this deck more consistent with its game plan, as the deck only starts chugging along around turns 6-7. Treasures aren’t the main theme of the deck, but Revel in Riches is super powerful with all the treasures Ziatora produces!

Here’s the deck below!:

CoarselyRefined thank you for the ideas! I’ll definitely add in Azusa to the maybeboard at least, sadly Terror of the Peaks is out of my budget- wish I picked it up when it was $30. The deck is more built like Kresh the Bloodbraided fling, with a generous amount of fling effects and power-matters cards. I will definitely consider some of the siege cycle cards as well!

Cards that work well both early and when you draw them latter are key. Beanstalk Giant is great for you, early on it ramps you up, later gives you a fatty to throw at your opponents. Also, cards that ramp you while doing something else like Deathsprout and Broken Bond serve as removal AND ramp, admittedly Broken Bond is a bit more situational. also, I know it’s not “cool” to run bounce lans anymore, but they are a great way to ensure you’re never missing land drops.

Also don’t forget fatties that don’t cost much mana like Rotting Regisaur we’ll help ya out too.

Phule451 thanks a ton! I’m still a bit hesitant on bounce lands these days, I just feel icky playing most tapped lands. Will definitely find room for the giant, will consider Deathsprout for now only because it isn’t as flexible as Putrefy or as cheaply-costed as Terminate.

There are few enchantments you can consider that will help you get more fat creatures into play: Sunbird's Invocation for when you cast your big spells, and Lurking Predators for when your opponents cast spells. Elvish Piper and Quicksilver Amulet are a few other options for cutting some mana value down, and they give you the flexibility to put creatures into play at instant speed. This can ensure you get some attacks out of your creatures if you want before flinging one of them at the end of your turn.

A Strionic Resonator will let you double up on damage for sacrificing one creature.

Lifeline is a fun card, but it works for the whole table. With your build here, though, you'll usually be taking for more advantage of it than anyone else.

I'd also recommend cards like Warstorm Surge and Where Ancients Tread to help speed up the damage clock, since your commander only gives you one activation per turn cycle.

Sorry, a few more notes...

When it comes to your ramp package, I'd would consider cutting the signets for more green land ramp, or possibly switching to the Talismans. I find them to be much less clunky. That's just a personal preference, though; if you find your ramp package to work ok, stick with it. I think the mana dork option is viable here, in that they can at least provide you some sac fodder and net you treasures.

I would not play Faithless Looting here. You have access to green and black for card draw, so do that. Greater Good fits in with the sacrificing theme. Don't forget about cards like Harmonize, either. It's not a flashy card at all, but being able to draw three cards without being dependent on board state can be useful.

This looks like a lot fun!

bushido_man96 thanks for all your suggestions! I added Harmonize to the list, might honestly cut it for Greater Good. I love Where Ancients Tread, and have it in my Omnath deck, I'm just a bit stumped for what to cut in the deck.

My only issue with Quicksilver Amulet is that most of my high-power creatures are < 4 CMC. A majority of the cost reducers in the deck

Definitely like the idea of at least saccing a mana dork with Ziatora, might just have to play this deck once it's built to see which I prefer! :p

I appreciate all your suggestions, cheers!
