It's that time again... New Commander Help.
Commander Deck Help forum

I'm yearning to build a new deck, and I am torn between 4 different ideas. Can you lovely folks help me decide?
Option 1: The Gitrog Monster
I wanted to build with this guy from the second he was spoiled. He seems like he could be buckets of fun! Ramping into tons of land, sacrificing all of that land, and playing big finishers like Terravore, Centaur Vinecrasher, or Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord.
Option 2: Nath of the Gilt-Leaf
I really like elf tribal, and I currently have an Ezuri, Renegade Leader EDH elf deck that I made with the C14 deck. I playtested the EDHREC decklist and found Nath to be lots of fun. Generating tons of elves to feed to sacrifice effects or buff to swing with, and keeping your opponent's hands empty and threats down seems pretty interesting. I already own a lot of the powerful elves thanks to the Precon, so the most expensive pieces would be the discard-based cards.
Option 3: Marath, Will of the Wild
I pulled Marath in one of those "card lots", and never really had a use for him. Even when I started building EDH decks, I always thought he was mediocre at best. But now I am a tad curious to see how well Marath would actually work. Ramp + Sacrifice + Counters? I don't know, but I could make it work.
Option 4: Prossh, Skyraider of Kher
I would just buy the precon and edit it. It would be fun to Jund'em, ya know?
Thanks for any input you have for me! I appreciate it. :3

If you want to go for Elf tribal, I think Rhys the Exiled would be better in Black/Green, because you gain life = gain time. I could imagine Nath of the Gilt-Leaf as one of the 99 in a Rhys deck.
With The Gitrog Monster : A good deck is very expensive (like costing losts of money). If you have Crucible of Worlds: go for it, otherwise you have to think is you really want to invest the money.
I once had a Marath Deck and I switched him out with Gahiji, because Marath himself: He doesn't look like it, but he's very Mana hungry. The problem is that by rules X is not allowed to be 0, which narrows it a bit.
With Prosh; he is demanding Voltron, because the Kobolds of Kher Keep are to small to be pumped and don't profit from cards like Avenger of Zendikar. If yo have the cards for Voltron it is acctually a quite nice deck, because Prosh is flying = in EDH he has natural evasion.

I say go for Rhys the Exiled deck. Put Nath in there, add Cryptolith Rite and Concordant Crossroads and the only really expensive thing I can think of that would be necessary to make it bonkers in Glimpse of Nature. Cast that, play your whole deck, swing and gain all the life.

And one card you have to include with Rhys the Exiled is Sanguine Bond. I don't know how much this card is in the US, but in Europe it costs more ore less 35 cents.

Marath is my favorite of the lot personally, check out Token Abuse to get an idea of what you can do with him.

Marath looks underwhelming until you build him for combo; then he's obscenely powerful.
Anyway, if you like elf tribal you can build Nath pretty cheaply. I'm working on a budget list for my brother you can look at: Look Ma, No Hands!.

My Marath was pretty solid by itself and it wasn't too combo-ish. It's just how you build it. My first go around was pretty much Naya good stuff.

Hello all!
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post.
First things first: Marath, Will of the Wild seems to be a popular choice, but after looking at decklists and edhrec, most of the pieces for the deck are either expensive or already being used in another deck.
I hear that Rhys the Exiled is popular for elf tribal, but I can't really justify splashing black for the (few) elves that the colors provides. I like Nath because he blends two strategies together nicely, and provides justification for having black. Your thoughts?

If you like Nath, you should play her. It is your deck after all, but if you happen to have a Rhys, include him in your deck, just for some aditional lifegain. In EDH it tends to be what puts you slightly ahead of others.

Lol no offense but it sounds like you had your mind made since the beginning, the choice is all up to you but nath is probably the most underwhelming of all the commanders mentioned and will bring the most hate if you build around discard (which you kind of have to).

If you build Nath, don't forget to auto include Sadistic Hypnotist

Same goes for Sadistic Hypnotist in any Prossh, Skyraider of Kher deck.
Nath of the Gilt-Leaf is okay, but out of the given commanders, Prossh, Skyraider of Kher is the most powerful and as far as i can tell from my Prossh - Need some water for that burn? deck shitloads of fun as well.
If you want something land and ramp based i'd go for Omnath, Locus of Rage (Omnath, Locus of Ramp), Omnath, Locus of Mana, Titania, Protector of Argoth, Mina and Denn, Wildborn, Borborygmos Enraged or even Baru, Fist of Krosa first.

I personally have a Marath deck and it's really fun to play. It's one of my favorite decks, aside Azami and Ulamog.
It first started out as token gen/infinite win with Cathars' Crusade + Mana Echoes , but now it's much more competitive with many more win combos.
