Making a Kiki/Twin Temur EDH Deck and Need Advice
Commander Deck Help forum

Hello!
I've been getting more and more into combo recently and decided to take a try at a Temur Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker / Splinter Twin deck. This is try one with what I had lying around, and I got a few questions on how I should take the deck moving forwards.

While I'm not a cEDH player, we do play fairly high powered EDH at my group, so I want the general to be a strongly suited commander for this strategy. Currently, we have Kalamax, the Stormsire as the commander. We basically control the board until we can double tutor with a card like Chord of Calling / Shared Summons and get our combo and execute it. My question here is, should I swap commanders? I won't go Thrasios/x as that is very expensive and not really what I want to do. Some other options I've thought of are go more midrange and do Surrak Dragonclaw , who can provide uncounterable to my combo pieces (mostly) as well as allow us to play other impactful creatuers we can then copy. Any other ideas?

My second question relates partially to the first: "How should I upgrade?". This completely depends on what commander I end up with so if you don't answer this one thats totally fine.
Thanks in advanced, -Arcaneful
Edit:
Oop! I apologize I messed up the link thing. It should be fixed now!

If you like things being uncounterable, Kodama of the East Tree is always an option. The mana advantage on him is insane. Partners really well with Kraum, Ludevic's Opus for card advantage alongside the mana advantage. Definitely more of a midrange kind of style.

I played Surrak Dragonclaw Twin EDH and had a lot of fun, I think the deck is in my lists if you want to look it up. Surrak is awesome for combat tricks and his flash allows you to leave mana open for counter spells and then cast him. Creatures being uncounterable is really useful.

That would be really good wouldn't it? I can see some great plays by playing a Kiki uncounerably off of a Kodama trigger ... I might have to look into this!
Your list looks INSANELY fun to pilot, I may have to swap over a bit to that. Surrak seems like a really good player in a heavy control meta, but sadly I feel like my meta is actually very lacking in dedicated blue players. I'll still consider him, and definitely will be looking at your list for inspiration!

Animar, Soul of Elements is your best bet for infinite combos with creatures for pieces. My deck doesn't go for Kiki combos but it's a good template for a competitive Animar deck. Animar, Gaea's Hemorrhoid

1) If you're strictly trying to play RUG ThasiosX is definitely hands down the strongest commander. Animar is also very strong but I wouldn't reccomend a twin build for him; he just does other things better. Pako and Haldan are definitely worth taking a look at if you want to switch from copy dino. I highly reccomend the kess twin build that's on here if you don't mind swapping colors I'll link you.
2) Always upgrade lands and mana rocks 1st. If you end up tearing a deck apart you're likely to reuse these in most if not all builds :)

I was looking at Animar, but Kiki Combos was what I was mainly wanting to do, as it reminds me of twin from Modern. I’ll totally look at your list for ideas on interaction and protection, so thank you for that!
Hm ok that makes sense for the Animar thing. Reducing two off Kiki ain’t the best is it?
Pako and Haldan are interesting, I’ll look into them.
Say I wasn’t strictly looking RUG. Would something like 4 color work? I was toying around with Kraum Sidar/Kraum Ikra before deciding temur, but thought it sounded a lil on the weaker side. I’d maybe do a pod theme with Vannifar, Neoform, etc?

I apologize for another comment, but realizing my playgroup already has a Pako Haldan player led me to something. I'm looking at some lists since I'm bored, and came across some Kodama Kraum lists that use Kiki Combo with a few others such as Inifnite mana + Walking Ballista . Does this sound like a good temur option?

Arcaneful most partners are going to be a better option than your standard RUG commander as they provide card advantage just by being in the command zone. 4c is definitely strong than 3c as it gives you more access to things but it also comes at a hefty monetary cost; takes a lot to have a smooth mana base. I actually like the idea of Kraum and Kodama. Also, Vannifar is strong but very linear and the chain can be easily interrupted.

Noted. I can’t shell out too much money right now, so maybe I’ll stick to RUG and go with Kodama Kraum. Thanks for your help!

Hope it all comes together. Twin was something I played a bit before Thassa's Oracle sheniaghans. It was very fun. A cool side note - if you mutate a creature on top of kiki he can clone himself :)
