Help with Simic Goodstuff?

Commander Deck Help forum

Rashmi looks so awesome. I'm considering taking apart my Lazav deck and using the blue parts to start building her. She's very clearly a goodstuff commander, but Simic is not in my wheelhouse and I don't have a lot of familiarity with it.

I can easily come up with mono-blue win conditions, but then I'm missing out on what green might allow. I'm going to need some reliable and efficient combos and/or locks in Simic colors. I don't really do battlecruiser EDH so turning dudes sideways doesn't work unless it's infinite dudes or "oops, where did this Craterhoof Behemoth come from!?"

Also, cards that are auto-include in Rashmi. Sensei's Divining Top, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Future Sight and such are obvious but I'm sure there's more that works well with her.

UPDATE: I've started putting together the bones of a list:

Momir Vig, Simic Visionary seems good. Cast a green creature, put Rashmi's trigger on the stack followed by Momir's, resolve Momir's to put a creature with less CMC on top of your deck, Rashmi's resolves and gets the tutored creature for free. Then that triggers Momir again. Fun!

He does seem good here! It does beg the question of which creatures to include beyond the obvious Deadeye Navigator combo package.

I'm actually building Rashmi myself! I'm trying to do something a bit different than elfball with her, hopefully it works out. Right now, the creatures I've included have useful abilities on a flash-stick, or give other creatures flash, or cheat on mana. Ex:

Mulldrifter is technically 5CMC, even when you evoke it, allowing you to 'cheat' on what you are able to cast off the top of your library. (Delve spells like Dig through Time also do this.)

Yeva, nature's herald, Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and Seedborn Muse all seem like auto-includes.

Oracle of Mul-Daya and Courser of Kruphix allow you to look at the top of your library.

Yeah, I think elfball is a huge waste of potential with her. She wants to be a combo commander.

I'm actually planning to avoid cards that get cute with her ability since they become bad when she is not on the table. A more compressed curve is also ideal. I do like the idea of Delve spells though.

I still haven't figured out win conditions that take advantage of access to green.

Green does get you the ramp that mono-blue lacks. I think Mormir Vig is a bit on the cute side, as you want to be more spell heavy than creature heavy (or at least, 50-50.)

Beyond that, there are value simic cards like Voidslime that are always good to have.

Eternal Witness is an obvious include.

Temur Sabertooth is a card that I think will shine in a flash-filled deck.

Maybe. Value creatures is good, and there are even creatures that do helpful things like blow up lands. At the end of the day though I need to either go infinite or establish a lock.

Seedborn Muse + Stasis could do some work, maybe?

Oh! Force of Will and Misdirection are also fun in here.

for counterspells, I'm currently looking at

Force of Will: Normally meh, surprisingly good here.

Forbid: This one actually becomes decent when the card advantage is somewhat negated.

Counterspell: Classic.

Arcane Denial: if you're digging for a combo, this is just fine.

Mana Drain: Needs no explanation

Voidslime: Same as above. Extremely flexible

Mystic Confluence: Same as above.

Swan Song: A good mix of efficiency and flexibility

Rewind: Untap effects are very good with this deck, as it can allow you to counter something from your first opponent, and still have mana up to, say, cast an instant-speed cantrip on a different opponent's turn.

I have some of the same ideas. Voidslime is a bit mana-intensive but the versatility makes up for it. Arcane Denial is awesome and probably belongs in every blue EDH deck ever.

I don't see myself running Rewind or Mystic Confluence. Way too much mana required.

For win conditions so far I've got:

Rewind: I would not run it in a 1v1, but I can see this being really good in a multiplayer game, as it is essentially 'free,' with Rashmi's ability. In a 4 player game, being able to counter something from P1 (draw a card), then untap to have another counter or instant-speed cantrip during P2's turn (draw a card), can get very broken. I'm going to test it myself, and see how it turns out.

I'm currently struggling to find a proper win condition for my list. I'm not a big fan of Future sight as a card, even in this deck, but I would like something that isn't 'just' Palinchron/Deadeye.

Some kind of E-wit bouncing shenanigans, perhaps?

In my current list, one of my infinite mana win conditions is the (vastly underrated, imo) Temur Sabertooth infinitely bouncing E-wit and recasting Time warp/temporal manipulation for infinite extra turns.

Oh, brilliant! I'm going to do that.
