Best Commander 2014 deck

Hey, I think my budget got bigger, so I can buy a more expensive commander deck, and I think that I like the planeswalker ones. Anybody have good experiences with these? Are they good in 1v1? Which one is best? Comments are appreciated!

Daretti, Scrap Savant! Best value imo

In my opinion and some experience I rank them from best to worst black, red, blue, green, white. I bought the white one and it just has 2 different play styles and fights itself. The black one is good the commander is better in 1v1 but making the demon is sweet otherwise it has plenty of card draw and some kill spells I think. The blue one might not be better than the green one but I heard its pretty good when played correctly its just big fat blue creatures and some draw and bounce it needs counterspells though. The green one is pretty punishing without a board wipe and can take over a game pretty fast but can also stumble and just do nothing with a bunch of small elves. The red one is pretty decent its pretty consistent and faster and more synergistic than the blue one so thats why its above blue.

Daretti has a Wurmcoil Engine in it. Need I say more? It's just the best value out of the decks, and it's not a bad deck at all, easy to improve. Teferi is probably the worst, with the other 4 basically tied together in terms of power level-edge to Nahiri ever so slightly.

Easy summary of the decks:

White: tokens/equipment. Great board control, decent spot removal. It'll be playable right out of the box. White is also the weakest monocolor in EDH overall, so improving it isn't really that worthwhile.

Blue: Morph synergy? Ramp? I don't know what they were going for with this deck, but it's not that good out of the box. Since blue is the strongest color in EDH, improving it can turn out great-but be ready to basically replace THE ENTIRE THING. Don't buy this deck.

Black: Morbid/drain strategy. Very playable in multiplayer out of the box, great to improve. Good board control, excellent spot removal, shockingly good ramp. Black is great at doing anything, so it's great to improve the deck out of the box, but the lack of real synergy doesn't really give you any pointers in how to improve it.

Red: Artifact recursion synergy. EXCELLENT VALUE. Daretti has also proven himself to be a crazy good commander competitively, so the deck definitely has potential. It's good out of the box, but easily improved into a monster. As a plus, it has good board control, as well as great self-synergy. Red is also a terrible color in EDH, so you'll probably find yourself playing a colorless EDH deck splashing red as you improve the deck.

Green: Elf-flavored elves. This is the easiest deck to understand out of the box; ramp into big things with little Elves, or use Freyalise's badassery for value. Easy to improve (even Regal Force is cheap right now), easy to play out of the box, just an all-around easy deck. I don't know what else to say here. If your meta does run a lot of board wipes, however, DO NOT GET THIS DECK. You will be MISERABLE.

So yeah, pick who you like. This should get you an idea of what you may like, but I think none of the decks are really bad (outside of Teferi). Red is great for value, Green is great if you don't want to think, Black is great if you dislike low life totals, and White is just all around good.

Sorry for the wall of text.

In my experience the green and red ones were the strongest out of the box.

I lean towards the black one (It's my favorite, so there's bias...I actually want to rebuild it now and evolve it), though the red one is good too.

They're all good, so pick one. But if I were to pick one, I'd choose black.

I chose the blue one. Like JA14732 said though, I literally replaced almost everything and than took it apart later.

My wife did real well with the green one, after modifying it, though she eventually took it apart.

I have 2 friends who built the black one up and both do very well.

I have another friend who built Daretti stax and does very well.

No one stayed with the white one. One of my friends tried making it work for awhile but gave up on it.

I personally didn't try any other than the blue one, these are simply my observations.

I think I will go either Black or Red now. The black deck feels very powerful to me, and the red deck has extreme value, but the theme can get getting used to.

As said before, the white one isn't worth your time and money. Apart from that all the others can be built around greatly.

Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath has little synergy but loads of value. I'd rather run it in the 99, because i just love commanders with loads of synergetic tricks.

Teferi, Temporal Archmage can be extremely brutal and effective in a Stasis build. But be aware that in most play groups i know you'd be targeted the moment they realize your kind of build. It might be a fun deck for you, but if you want others to enjoy the game as well, build something else.

Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury is good, but in my experience Ezuri, Renegade Leader is the better mono- Elf commander. While he can be a real threat by turn 4-5 she needs more build up time, that makes her more fragile to wraths. Even more so as he can regenerate regenerate Elves. Both are pretty much exchangeable, so you might as well just build this deck with one of them in the 99, but if you want the planeswalker to be the definite commander i'd pass.

Now for Daretti, Scrap Savant, he's just awesome! Plenty of value, great synergy between its + and - abilities, low cmc in a deck that will run tons of mana rocks, recursion and card draw integretated, ... hands down the best and most fun out of these 5 if you ask me.

Hence: Daretti, Scrap Savant > Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury > Teferi, Temporal Archmage > Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath >>> Nahiri, the Lithomancer

Here's my opinion on the deck colors from weakest to strong:

Blue: Most of the deck is just draw-cards and doesn't have a strong plan. Teferi is basically the only worthwhile card here.

White: A decent preconstructed deck with some great build-around cards. As mentioned before, the subthemes were a little schizophrenic and clashed with each other. I bought this and was happy to tear it apart to put into other decks.

Black: Not a bad deck, strong game plan and good deck construction. Definitely provides room for improvement without having to make sweeping changes to the deck.

Green: Well-constructed precon that can generate a strong board presence. As mentioned, folds to board wipes but otherwise strikes a nice balance of ramp and threats. A friend bought this and it continues to hold its own even against custom decks that the rest of our playgroup runs. I bought it and transformed it into a Titania ramp deck. This was my favorite deck of the bunch.

Red: Best value overall, and rewards players who like complex interactions. It's a different strategy to victory than just swinging into the red zone. There is strong synergy and good combos to keep the deck interesting. It sold out first at our LGS. Also has great potential for upgrades without losing sight of the general aim of the deck.
