Competitive Meter Ratings Inconsistent

The competitive meter seems a bit odd. I changed two editions of cards I have because I picked up the same card in foil and it made my squirrel deck change from being 67% competitive to 26% competitive. Has anyone else had similar experiences to this? I didn't change my deck, so it seems very odd that the meter dropped drastically.

The Competitive Meter is a bit like a the creature in "IT" -- It only has power over you if you believe in it.

Basically it's never worked right, not in all the time I've been here (~10 years) and no matter what you try, there's going to be SOMETHING that screws it up. It's all done on templates and card inclusion statistics, new versions or foils of cards screw around with it wholesale.

You need to play the deck yourself to see how "competitive" it is, not rely on a number given by essentially a random number generator to tell you.

Snake_Oil That first paragraph is pure gold and accurate to boot. This thread is started about once every month and yeaGO or some other mod needs to set that as an auto reply whenever "competitive meter" is mentioned lol.

Snake_Oil: So you could basically say it's Powerwise, the Clown? :)

I'll show myself out, thank you very much.

Adding new cards to decks is always a fun game of "Will this move the meter positively, or will it drop by +20%?". I recently added some LotR cards to one deck, and the meter dropped by 2%. I add those same cards to a similar deck, and the meter drops by 41%, then climbs up 2%.

My favorite meter changes were to my Anhelo and Prosper decks, which were listed as "70-60% competitive" respectively, and dropped to less than 20% each overnight with no edits made on my part. None of it makes sense lmao.

Dude, i can swap out a basic for a dual land and it'll knock my deck down to pre-con level lol, don't stress about the meter.

Anyone else notice that it seems to tank your rating if you edit a deck a bunch of times quickly (making a bunch of small changes is almost always bad in my experience)? A bit annoying when I'm doing a lot of fiddling.

I'm always torn between turning the thing off or just leaving it, when I started out I definitely took it personally when my deck was rated poorly, but I quickly realized a deck can have a low rating and be quite cutthroat, especially if you're running jank or homebrew that the system is unfamiliar with. Now I have a good laugh at some of it's more ridiculous appraisals, it's like checking a thermometer you know is broken, you're obviously better off just going by feel but it might be funny to know it's like -10C out and see the thermometer say it's a balmy 30C.

I think it just may not be updating. It can take a minute for the deck to refresh the score but many edits at a time won't reflect immediately.
