Can someone explain to me what the commander format is about.

How does it work ?

How to build a deck?

Is there some kind of rotation to consider ?

There's some EDH/Commander articles on Epochalyptik's profile that are a good starting point after you read the rules that Raging_Squiggle linked.

I recommend getting one of the prebuilt commander decks to start out. They're not very strong, but they do provide a great introduction to the format, and can be easily upgraded to become more powerful.

Alternatively, if you've got a commander in mind already, you can just dive in to deck building immediately.

I find EDHREC.com to be a resource I constantly use. Once you understand the basic rules (link in post #1), and you've decided you are ready to build your own deck (whether you buy a pre-constructed deck or not is totally up to you, but I too can say it's a great way to get started), EDHREC is such an awesome resource, showing you what cards are usually played with certain commanders.

Some people feel that it is netdecking commander decks, but my decks are usually very different from the norm according to the website, and they work just the way I want them too.

Cheers and welcome to the format (if you find you like it here!)

Seeing your name and the short intro on your profile i guess, starting out with a dragon themed commander would just have you drawn into research about EDH/Commander. Plus, with your weakness for Khans and Dragons you'll propably have a good set of cards already.

The obvious candidates are Scion of the Ur-Dragon and Prossh, Skyraider of Kher. One is the go to guy if you want to play as many dragons as possible, the other is just one nasty fella. Kaalia of the Vast could be hilarious as dragon only as well. The thing about Prossh, Skyraider of Kher is that you could get his preconstructed deck and roll from there.

edhrec.com/ is really great, but on my opinion it is really refreshing coming up with own ideas and think outside of the box. Use the deck search to go through other decks or use magiccards.info for detailed research. Who knows what you'll come up with?

I really love my Prossh - Need some water for that burn? deck for being different. I'm keen to see what you have in mind.

While those two are certainly powerful commanders, don't count out Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund as a dragon deck commander. He's not as powerful as the other two, but if flavor is what you're looking for, he's got it.
