I Couldn't help but notice a gruul deck hit meta
Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith & Kodama of the East Tree
Utilizing Gruul Turf as a win con
outside of me loosing a $5.00 bet, i'm actually excited / impressed
what's everyone else's thoughts and opinions?
p.s. i still wont build or play it, but i probably wont hate on it
o the lethal comes with pretty much anything else
Hellkite Tyrant, Tunneling Geopede,
with a loop landfall trigger you can do pretty much anything in gruul

Evolution Sage & Magistrate's Scepter Infinite Turns
Lotus Cobra, Krark-Clan Ironworks Infinite Mana
Scute Swarm, Omnath, Locus of Rage, Nesting Dragon,Rampaging Baloths Infinite creatures to attach the rocks to
thats just some stuff i can think of off the top of my head
im sure there is much more and probably more efficient ones they are using with the deck

for those that don't see it
1. play Gruul Turf ETB targets itself and triggers Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith
2. Rock etb triggers Kodama of the East Tree then back to step 1.

What about the part that says "if it wasn't put into the battlefield with this ability"? Wouldnt that stop this combo?

its the rock token entering that triggers Kodama of the East Tree ability to place Gruul Turf
Gruul Turf is triggering Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith to place the rock
since none of the rocks are placed by Kodama of the East Tree it does not stop the combo

Yes, it works with Guildless Commons too. That redundancy allows for a lot of annoying combo-protection, since the other two pieces don't mind being destroyed (as they just go to the CZ)

It's an interesting combo and I see it perhaps blind siding a table once then only sniping a game 5% of time at a cedh table. Requires a lot of mana, set up and you have to use bad cards that are bad outside of a very niche combo.

Playing a 9 cmc combo in gruul is is incredibly easy
Also it much harder to stop then it first appears, gruul offers plenty options to protect its creatures, the competitive version is pacted with card mechanics known as "a middle finger to blue"

Perfect timing on this topic...I've been setting aside cards for a Gruul deck for a while and once these two were spoiled got to work on it. Just finished building it this weekend...would love some opinions and comments regarding cards included and oversights on those not currently in the deck.
