How do you use Djinn

For example I know a Djinn creature gives all of your opponents +1 +1 counters on their creatures. Why would you want to increase your opponents power?

It's possible that the card in question (Aku Djinn?) is just not very good.

There are tons of bad Djinns in old sets.

If we're talking about commander format, the bottom line is to influence the game in a diplomatical way. This means that a card like Vow of Malice is very good because while it does give one of your opponents creature a boost, it still can't attack you. And Cauldron of Souls is also very good card because you will gain lot of political power from that card.

Of course this didn't answer your question, but I just wanted to point out.

A 5/6 trample for 5 is generally pretty good as far as creature economy goes. The +1/+1 counter effect is meant to balance that power with some kind of risk to the user.

By today's standards, the power is not worth the downside because we have plenty of better creatures for this role. But at the time it was printed, this card was more powerful.

Turns off Undying for your opponents? That's good, right?
