Really liking the look of Kumena as a potential Merfolk tribal general:
Slow? Yes. Clunky? Yes. Fun? YES!
Kind of wish he was Bant for some of the Lorwyn Merfolk goodness, but he's still pretty sweet. I'm already sitting at 6 tribal EDH decks so I'm not super compelled to build another at the moment, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing some of the tribal deck brews around this guy that you good folks come up with.

I find commanders with multiple abilities like this are easily underestimated. I dont think this will hit cEDH since that is almost exclusively combo decks but there is some explosive potential alongside say Intruder Alarm.

Gonna be stinking sick with Paradox Engine. Maybe turn all your creatures to dorks with Cryptolith Rite and all of them into merfolk with Arcane Adaptation? Such fun will be had by combo players!

This guy being spoiled made me change my plans for my fifth EDH deck. Planning on going the counters route with him. Really looking forward to the rest of the spoilers after him!

I feel like a bant deck with Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa and Thrasios, Triton Hero which tries to tutor out combos with her which in bant includes Stonybrook Schoolmaster and Summon the School

My wife's merfolk deck, Merfolk Are Awesome, definitely wants Kumena at least in the 99. I think he would do well as the commander, but that call is ultimately up to my wife. She likes Zegana and the deck is currently built more for going tall as opposed to going wide.

I like the ide that he would be BANT. But I think that would hurt some of Ixalan lore. He would be the only withe merfolk in Ixalan.

"The guy who punched his teacher in the face to disobey centuries of his people's laws in order to acquire power for himself by uncovering a secret that should remain hidden is a white character."
Come on guys, really?

The best part is the merfolk don't need haste to use his abilities (including himself)
