Let's talk about Deciever of Form in edh
Commander (EDH) forum

Where do you want it and what would you copy?
The most obvious duplicate copies is nonlegendary creatures with annihilator/annihilator-like mechanics and Blightsteel Colossus
One fun card released in Commander 2015 to copy would be Dream Pillager. If any of your copies hit an opponent, it will be nasty :D

You still have to pay the costs for card exiled with Dream Pillager, so it's not that great.

A whole bunch of Balefire Dragons sound good to me. Add in Repercussion for even more "fun".

Hydra Omnivore and Pathbreaker Ibex both seem pretty good.

Hypnotic Specter if you don't want to have anymore friends. xD

What about Dragon Mage? all the Wheel of Fortune effects!
January 2, 2016 2:49 p.m.
I mean, you have to get a 7-drop out, have it survive for a turn, get lucky (or spend time and effort to manipulate the top of your deck), and reveal a fatty off the top. It seems like you'd want to have a ton of fatties with combat-related abilities with this card. You'll end up with an insanely top-heavy curve. I don't see this being worth running in any deck in EDH. Even in casual play, there's more exiting things you can do. Heck, I'd rather just kick a Rite of Replication or something.
January 2, 2016 2:57 p.m.
Epochalyptik that would be the point in animar tribal eldrazi :D
I could use Dream Pillager and Deciever of Form to grab my end game combo faster, or just keep hurling my deck onto the field :D
Another hilarious card I think would be good to get revealed would be Siege Behemoth, because that card just looks fun period :D
January 2, 2016 3:11 p.m.
no one has seen the idea of Thragtusk + Goblin Bombardment or any other leave the battlefield triggers with sacrificing the creature? Works great in token decks that have so many other tokens on the field already like Spitebellows
January 2, 2016 3:16 p.m.
Jolrael, Empress of Beasts deck maybe...or possibly Hua Tuo, Honored Physician. There are a lot of different creatures I can see being good to reveal with this card, so really it comes down to what commander and what colors. (ultimate casual build-around-me logic FTW)
I would love to have Whisperwood Elemental combo with Hua Tuo, Honored Physician.

1empyrean the moment I saw Jolrael, Empress of Beasts, I immediately thought, give it commander indestructible then use it to boardwipe your opponents' lands. And yeah, Hua Tuo does sound fun with Deciever of Form :)

@TheDevicer survive for a turn? pretty sure that's not needed at all. Neither is waiting until after you drop him to manipulate your library.
On one turn manipulate your library, via scry or some such, next turn, play him, enter combat, reveal your fatty of choice, swing with the creatures you have. Bonus points if you built up tokens first.
He triggers at the beginning of combat, not at the beginning of your turn, there's no reason I'm seeing that you can't trigger the turn you drop him. Sure it's a fair amount of setup, but this comes from out of left field, especially in a format like EDH. If I'm sitting on 8 or so saprolings, I'm not a huge threat, and in one turn I can turn those all into dragons? or anything with Myriad?
My only concern about this card is that it HAS to work when you play it, if you don't pull a fatty the turn you drop it, you're putting a target on yourself by dropping something like this, especially if you had any value of board presence.
January 2, 2016 5:18 p.m.
That's assuming you have the mana to use anything in addition to playing a 7-drop. That's quite difficult to do. In addition, there's very few permanents that allow you to manipulate the top of your deck without mana investment that are worth playing. Now we're talking about 8 mana if we're using Brainstorm or the like. Not to mention everything I've just detailed above means nothing unless you have an established board. I'm telling you, the hoops you have to jump through to make this thing worthwhile make the whole ordeal appropriate for a circus act.

I'll agree that it's a lot of hoops to jump through, but I've seen far worse from this game, and I've seen far worse steal games.
You don't need more than 7 mana, you can manipulate your topdeck on a turn before you play Deceiver. EoT Brainstorm, Sylvan Library, etc.
I'm not trying to argue that the card is amazing, or belongs in every EDH deck, just that it's workable.
Edit: Also that gif is bloody hilarious.

If you're playing a deck with Sylvan Library, why would you EVER want to play this thing? It's like serving Wagyu with mac and cheese.
January 2, 2016 6:01 p.m.
TheDevicer which is why I brought up Hua Tuo, Honored Physician. Sure, its not really an impressive card, and not all that popular a commander from what I can tell, but it manipulates topdeck without mana and can be your commander.
Wagyu with mac and cheese sounds good right about now. I think I might name my next deck after that (or something similar) :-P.

Solemn Simulacrum. Then send my sad robots out to die, follow up with a Damnation/etc. if my opponents don't feel like killing them. It works well with Vampiric Tutor and Volrath's Stronghold, as well.

Aight. Fair enough. This thing would be worthwhile in Hua Tuo.

...or Insidious Dreams into Kokusho, the Evening Star...
That would probably be pretty good in a Ghoulcaller Gisa deck.

Ravolt,
My first thought when I saw him was in a Marath, Will of the Wild deck with a bunch of Legends with powerful ETB/LTB effects.
For example, even with only a handful or two of tokens out, the direct damage from topdecking a Purphoros, God of the Forge or Omnath, Locus of Rage would be insane. Or how about the army a Hazezon Tamar could bring on the next upkeep? Speaking of which, with Hua Tuo, Honored Physician you could even use Haz' as Commander ...
Add a Blade of Selves and the Naya myriad cards (Caller of the Pack, Herald of the Host, and Warchief Giant, for some bonus goodness.
January 3, 2016 12:40 a.m. Edited.
Ravolt,
Another potential option: A Rakdos, Lord of Riots deck (just 'cause he makes big Eldrazi so easy to cast) loaded up with a bunch of haste effects and "whenever a creature dies" dudes like Falkenrath Noble, Havengul Vampire, and Harvester of Souls.
January 3, 2016 1:15 a.m.
clayperce ETB's won't trigger (if your topdeck is Purphoros, God of the Forge in Marath, you should already be able to win). Omnath, Locus of Rage works.
Nacatl War-Pride is better than the myriad creatures. I really am going to build this into a mono-green...

Oh yeah, they're already on the battlefield. Derp.
Bummer, but thanks!

Can someone tell me how Chronozoa's tokens interacts with this card's temporary copy ability?
January 3, 2016 2:15 a.m.
clayperce you must really love the rakdos guild XD, you keep egging me on to make an eldrazi rakdos commander.
As for everyone, these ideas look fun :D
Keep up your malicious plotting
(Btw, other tribal decks may benefit from deceiver of form, I'm just speculating it)
January 3, 2016 3:01 a.m.
Utvara Hellkite copies of that card would be extremely hilarious :D
January 3, 2016 3:17 a.m.
Ravolt,
Nay. You asked, "... what would you copy?" If you'd asked, "... what should I copy?", I would have tried to think of something for your Animar :-)
And I'm embarrassed I didn't think of the dragons. Those would be insane!
January 3, 2016 9:18 a.m.
clayperce lol you got me there, and I got you by the tail XD
January 3, 2016 9:31 a.m.
I'll personally be putting this card in my Sidisi, Brood Tyrant deck. The deck revolves around self-mill obviously. It follows part of the Four Horsemen combo using Basalt Monolith + Mesmeric Orb to mill yourself infinitely with Kozilek, Butcher of Truth in the deck to shuffle your graveyard. From there Dread Return is used. This card can be one of the choices to reanimate, and that's really the only way I see this card being usable, by reanimating it.
From there you have a multitude of options to manipulate your topdeck. You can be an asshole and shuffle with a Courser of Kruphix on the field until you get something usable or do the more obvious methods like Sensei's Divining Top, Brainstorm, Worldly Tutor, Sylvan Library, etc.
I think the only two creatures I'm planning on running with it currently are Keiga, the Tide Star and Kokusho, the Evening Star. Kamigawa dragons are probably the premiere creatures to use with this. They hit the field and I either steal an infinite amount of creatures with all of the zombies I produced or deal an infinite amount of damage to everyone.

This in a Kolaghan Deck with a shit ton of dragons and Coat of Arms. Make everything a copy of Scourge of Valkas then just dash in Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury for an instant win.
