Muldrotha vs Yarok

Yarok, the Desecrated
Muldrotha, the Gravetide
I set out 6 months ago to build a Muldrotha deck. I ended up having over 100 non-land cards that I wanted to cram into the deck. At the time, I cut it down to the best 65, added 35 lands and called it a day.
However, the question remained, what to do with the rest of the cards?
Well, Yarok, the Desecrated comes to the rescue. I think most of the ETB effects I have in Muldrotha, can easily slot into Yarok. Now I can basically make 2 Muldrotha decks, which is quite OK with me!
However, expensive staples like Doubling Season can only be in one of the decks.
So the questions is which of the two Dark Souls bosses is the better commander? Yarok or Muldrotha?
Or do you think there is an even better sultai commander?

Put Yarok in the 99 of your Muldrotha deck.
That's what I'm going to do.

My favourite Sultai commander is Sidisi, Brood Tyrant but hey, that's a whole other kettle of fish

Well, I am pretty sure that the Yarok deck will also have Muldrotha in the 99 and vice versa. I guess it is nice to have an alternate commander.

Honestly Sultai has had an amazing group of commanders, but each kind of work differently.
If you're playing a lot of etb effects and triggers, I say go for Yarok. If you're playing a ton of value permanents, play Muldrotha. Self mill probably works best with Tasigur and zombies probably works best with Sidisi. It's really up to you.

Yarok is better because Muldrotha has a huge weakness. Graveyard hate. One Rest in Peace or any other similar effect and you're done. But the same could be said about Yarok. One Torpor Orb and you're done. Only difference is torpor orb stops creatures. Yarok cares about all the triggered effects not just creatures, and not the entering.
Theres so many strategies you can go. Reanimation decks. Mill decks. Draw and discard decks. Control decks. Token decks. Walkers. Or just value.
I'm gonna list a few cards that trigger in many effects except etb effects. To hammer home the point that torpor will not shut down a yarok deck.
- Grave Titan
- Dictate of Erebos
- Underworld Dreams
- Rhystic Study
- Wurmcoil Engine
- Bloodgift Demon
- Progenitor Mimic
- Fleet Swallower
- Mesmeric Orb
- Hedron Crab
- Waste Not
- Liliana's Caress
- gray merchant of ashphodel
- Fraying Sanity
- Wound Reflection
- scyth spector
- Bloodchief Ascension
- Painful Quandary
- Exquisite Blood
- Sanguine Bond
- Blood Artist
- zulaport cutthroat
- Frost Titan
- Roil Elemental
- Sword of Feast and Famine
- Sword of Truth and Justice
- sword of steel and sinew
- Sword of Light and Shadow
- Sword of Fire and Ice
- Sword of War and Peace
- Black Market
- Revel in Riches
- Mechanized Production
- Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
- pathrazor ulamog
- Emrakul, the Promised End
- Consuming Aberration
I can go on and on. Yarok all the way better

Yes, indeed, yarok is every permanent. The list above is nice, some things like Rhystic Study is quite good with Yarok and I never thought of them triggering.
OK, I am convinced 100% to build Yarok fully loaded now. The above list got me to think in so many different directions. One card I just thought of that is really cool is Tireless Tracker - tracker gives you 2 clues per land with Yarok, while the clues sac to get you two cards.
I still have to see whether I have enough cards to make two decks, but still - I appreciate your help.

It has to enter and trigger. That's where I made the mistake. But it doesn't care where the entering happens. So Sire of Stagnation is really good.

Another good interaction is the cards that say when they enter choose one but give you 2 or more options. So for instance Retreat to Coralhelm , Retreat to Hagra , Retreat to Kazandu , Palace Siege , Frontier Siege , and Monastery Siege
You get to choose both. Another idea is Stuffy Doll choose 2 players for stuffy doll. And another thing to think about is yarok doesn't care if it's your things entering that triggers your stuff so cards like Polluted Bonds , Soul Warden , and Faerie Artisans are good here too

Altar of the Brood , Blood Seeker , Lifegift , Paradise Plume , Dance of Many , Diabolic Servitude , Dire Undercurrents , Mirrodin Besieged , and Treachery just to name a few non creature etb effects that are great to double

You are right I may have jumped the gun on those cards.

I will resort to the age old answer of... it depends.
Depends on how you like to play and what your end game might eventually be. Muldrotha is more grindy and easier to guarantee comboing off if that is your preferred route to victory.
Yarok is more of a value engine and obviously more threatening from a combat perspective which opens up go wide and go tall strategies.
Personally I think Yarok can still be built with a graveyard focus to get even more use out of ETB effects and having Muldrotha in the deck would be excellent value... Or the other way around, slotting Yarok into muldrotha adds extra value when Muldrotha is in play.
I don't think there is a wrong answer here as both are pretty damn sweet but from a cEDH standpoint I think Muldrotha's ability to ensure combos easier makes it a tick above Yarok.
