Second edh deck
Commander (EDH) forum

Hello everyone! I have a Golgari edh deck that I have just turned into a Gitrog deck, and I am very happy with it! I however want to be building a second edh deck soon, but I don't really have any idea about who to use as my commander. I would like to turn one of my existing decks into an edh deck. I've thought of building something around my Dino tribal deck, or +1/+1 counter deck, but who to use? Any help appreciated
early in getting into commander one of the more interesting things to do is brew, some of my weirder decks have been started by piling up 300 cards that I roughly would want to play in those colors of the legendary creature I picked, course this is dependent on being able to play edh with some frequency while you learn just which cards are bad and how much interaction you should run to do well.

For dinos, dbpunk basically summed it up.
I have found a few really good +1/+1 counter commanders, and some of them may surprise you!
The most obvious, and probably the strongest, is Atraxa, Praetors' Voice . However if the billfold’s not a fan of hers, the optimal replacement is Reyhan, Last of the Abzan partnered with Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker . But there is something to be said for Marath, Will of the Wild if you want something unique. She’s a good commander with a lot of staying power due to her ability.
Reyhan, Last of the Abzan partnered with Ravos, Soultender is a super quirky +1/aristocrats deck, as can Marchesa, the Black Rose . Marchesa is a much better commander, but with much worse colors. On the other hand, Dethrone can sort of play up Commander’s political aspect, or it can’t depending on your preferences. Either way, built-in dethrone is pretty strong.

Gishath does look very cool! But wouldn't Atla Palani be 'Egg' tribal instead of Dinos?

Not necessarily, since her main thing would be grabbing your stuff. Also think of it as Dino's coming out of eggs.

Ha! Just imagine a giant zacama leaping out of a tiny egg token! So would the Palani be a better Dino commander than Gishath? I can clearly see her benefits, as she costs a lot less to cast.

It's kinda difficult to say. Gishath is the classic dinosaur commander, but that's more straight up dino tribal/aggro deck. If you want more of a combo deck, Atla works better.

Thanks. I think I might go with Gishath then, as I like TOTAL tribal decks. He is quite expensive in the mana though.

The good part about Gishath is that a lot of the Mana cost reducers that go into dino decks affect him more than Alta. Alta you wouldn't be playing things like Knight of the Stampede since your goal is to cast as few creatures by hand as possible. Those are vital in Gishath decks though.

From what I have read is that Gishath is a very casual commander, so do you know if this is true?

Ok so if you're interested in building Dino's, there are plenty of good options! Gishath, Sun's Avatar is probably your best bet, but if you're looking for a more combo based route Atla Palani, Nest Tender also works out well.
As for the +1/+1 counter deck, it depends on what the colors are.
