Sister Decks (EDH 2HG)

Commander (EDH) forum

I've looked into the new team oriented cards coming out in Oath, and it got me to thinking of the amazing possibilities it could bring to 2HG games in EDH.

That much is obvious, but I began thinking deeper, what about instead of just you and a random person grabbing whatever EDH deck you have with you, you're decks are DESIGNED to be played as teammates?

What does this mean? You and your teammate can run combo pieces outside of your commander's color identities, by having them in your teammates deck for one.

Example: Your commander has green in his/her color identity, your deck's sister is a Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind deck, so you run Keen Sense, and Snake Umbra in your deck, to assist your teammate getting the kill.

Or perhaps you're top decking, and very behind, you're Niv Mizzet sister deck tosses a Blue Sun's Zenith your way to help even the odds.

I'm sure there are lots of other ways to make sister EDH decks, but these are few that instantly sprang to mind.

Kresh the Bloodbraided and Thraximundar INSTANTLY come to mind as good sister decks.

Ideas/Thoughts?

I would love to see Lavinia of the Tenth and Gaddock Teeg working together, actually :D

Another combo I'd like to see is Chainer, Dementia Master and Sidisi, Brood Tyrant.

I designed two EDH decks for a 2HG EDH tournament that a friend and I participated in. I ran Animar, Soul of Elements and my friend ran the Azami, Lady of Scrolls deck that I built to go with it. I designed the decks to share combo pieces, and Animar ran cards like Peregrine Drake and Cloud of Faeries that allowed it to ramp Azami or untap lands for counterspells.

I uld like to see tribal decks teamed up against other tribe decks but that's just me cause that sounds like fun.

We had a 2HG tourny here, and the duo that won were a Zur and a Niv-Mizzet. Zur had the enchantments and if only nedded to attack with niv mizzet on the table.

It wasn't very fun

Nekusar, the Mindrazer and Selvala, Explorer Returned make a gruesome combo (primarily with the stax route for Selvala)

Nekusar and Nekusar seems much stronger, or you cannot run 2 of the same?

Locally, we take the normal 2HG rule of no more than four copies of a card between both teams and make it apply for a singleton format, so no shared non-basics (including stuff like Sol Ring) which is one of the reasons Nekusar and Selvala works well for us (no shared color cards). I don't know whether there are official 2HG rules

As far as I know, there aren't any official rules for 2HG EDH. I think that it is left up to the organizer to figure out what rules they want to go by.

The tournament I went to allowed people to have the same cards between decks because the regulars at the store made a stink and didn't want to have to make any changes to their decks. However, if a game didn't end within the time limit then there was an achievement system that was used as a tie breaker, and if a team didn't have any copies of a card that was in both decks then that team got an achievement point.
